Been doing concrete for years. Not once have i heard anyone actually use words to teach how it's done! Gotta love the trades...

*How to concrete:*
*1. Make it smooth.*
*2. Make it rough.*

Dont worry nate. I am a union mason, and I approve of your rough slabs! Sometimes thats all you need, and it being rough can make it less sliperry especially for ice and shit. Could matter when you're older..

"I sloped it with a 2x4, which I don't know where it is" I get it man. 😅

You are a living example of the saying “live and learn”.
I don’t want to get all emotional about it, but it’s helped me to keep going through some really tough times. Thank you for that.

Done this a few times - neighbour had a ton of leftover concrete and we had a patch we wanted to fill. Literally dug out the dirt and poured her in just like this.... Almost 20yrs later and that small pad is still mint.

My grandpa would press rock salt in the smooth top of the concrete before it hardened and then spray it with water once it was dry to melt the salt. The rock salt left little impression pits all over the surface that people used to think were pretty & decorative.

Hey Nate!!!, I’m a concrete pump truck driver/operator been doing it for family for 4 years now wouldn’t change or trade this career for anything but there is no wrong way of doing concrete 😁 I think it looks killer even without forms especially since your doing on your own. You’re doing a better job than most of the finishing crews I pump for! Love the content brother! My better half and I watch all your videos so keep on keepin on 🤘🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻

I love "signing " concrete ❤
We have some 40yo paw prints from cats that are no longer with us. But I remember them every time I see them little prints

Did you paint the paw and hand prints so they'd stick out? Looks great!

My brother-in-law(a concrete man) calls that "working the stones in" part, bringing the cream up. Always thought that was a great description of a process.

When I learned to finish concrete they taught me to pat the surface to work the stones lower and get the bleed out going then we'd wait for that to dry up a bit then float it proper. Doing that patting with a bull float was probably the most workout I ever had. Arms like rubber afterwards.

I've been finishing concrete for 19 years, and that's a fine job for not being a concrete guy, and everything you said was right on point

As a stucco guy I sure do appreciate whenever I see a trowel . Such a versatile tool used for many different types of concrete and cement

Thanks for the introduction to concrete finishing. I’m currently practicing, and I’m learning that patience is a virtue - especially with concrete. As mentioned in this video, supported by my learning first hand, wait until the concrete starts setting to finish it!

Thank you Nate I never actually poured concrete to work with and this makes it feel a little morecomfortable to do a basic project now thank you

This was actually a great introduction, I’ve worked in construction for awhile but don’t do concrete and was curious

Lol man this gave me flashbacks to when I helped my neighbor with the concrete for the foundation of their house and I had never heard why you shouldn't handle concrete barehanded I just always heard people talking about how it dries out your hands so I didn't think anything of just shoving my hands in it to pull it out of the wheelbarrows or using my hands to smooth it out (the tools weren't smoothing it out well) 😂 I had quit a few "cuts" on my hand from it but my stubborn ass was to far in to just stop so I kept it up for another hour or two and by the end my hands were screaming...And continued to scream for almost a week and even hurt so bad the first few days I'd be woken up out of a dead sleep 😂 I learn the hard way chemical burns are a thing and dry hands are not the only issue

I used to work in concrete, absolute hell. I am grateful for anyone who works in construction, it’s not for everyone that’s for sure😂
