This is a configuration of the 8bitdo SF30 Pro bluetooth gamepad on a test image of RetroPie built on Raspbian Stretch. It should work similarly for Raspbian Jessie.

Starting the controller simply by holding the START button? Or Start+B (android mode) ?
My Left trigger and Right trigger refuse to be assigned. Anyone can help?

I can do this fine with one controller when pairing with the pi via bluetooth but am having difficulty getting a second controller to pair. Any suggestions please?

I do not have a keyboard, can I just use my generic corded super-NES controller to configure IU menu n stuff?

I do not have a PC in my house. Just iphone 10 and Wireless WiFi.

I will update firmware at friends house tomorrow.

Then copy what Herb did here. Hopefully I can use my Super Pi’s included corded controller to do this? And of course it’s not blue tooth. So it shouldn’t get my 8bitDO and included corded controller mixed up, as I configure my 8bitDO to Super Pi??

So I have followed this exact method but when I'm using two of these controllers. The 1st player's buttons are not configured correctly. Like when I play contra on nintendo, 1st player jumps with A and shoots with Y. 2nd player jumps with A and shoots with B like it should be. Does anyone else get this problem and know how to solve it? Other games are mixed up with the 1st player controller as well and it's not just one controller, I've swapped the controllers with 2nd and 1st player and it's always the 1st player having the issue.... My controllers are both updated to latest firmware and have a raspberry pi 3b+ with version 4.4 retropie.

IF YOUR CONTROLLER DOESN'T WORK IN GAMES BUT WORKS IN EMULATION STATION READ BELOW!

if you have multiple controllers set up and you run into the problem of the sf30 controlling emulation station but not allowing you to control games or exit a rom then retroarch may have set your new controller as player two. to use it as player one and use the assigned hot key (used to exit the game, save states, etc.) you have to switch it
1)go to the retropie menu in emulation station
2)choose retroarch
at this point your sf30 should stop working in the retroarch menu so you know you found the problem!
3)take your other controller and scroll to "settings" and select it
4)scroll to "input" and select it
5) scroll to "input user 1 binds" and select it
5) in "input user 1 binds" select the sf30
at this point your original controller should stop working and the sf30 should now be controlling retroarch
6) in "input user 2 binds" select your second player controller
7) follow the above steps to program any other controllers you have
8)YOU MUST SAVE THE CONFIGURATION! EXITING WILL DELETE THE CHANGES
9)press "B" to back out to settings
10)press "B" again to back out to the main menu
11) scroll to and select "configuration"
12)select "save current configuration"
13)your done! press "b" to back out and then "quit retroarch" to get back to emulation station
