they should remake the game but only change the graphics, make the AI smarter, more options for the units, and some minor improvements but keep the same game core

Field of view softened reportedly changes things (easier to see). Landscape altitude softer (mesh with lighting built on top of original system). Cliffs redrawn. Multilayer popcap increased to 500.

I think this is awesome, would love HD with online versions of the early Command & Conquer games, especially Tiberian Sun. The fancy graphics of modern games don't make them better gameplay wise and these old Classics like Age of Empires 2 are known as Classics for a reason, awesome gameplay!

These heretics have defiled one of the greatest games of all time.... pretty much everything is a downgrade from the original game!
The original game was allready in HD if you just installed some patches.
The terrain in HD is ugly as fuck, well you could argue that the "3d" water effect is pretty neat, but it causes some pretty serious lag!
The lobby system also is kinda neat, but there is like a 1/4 chanse that the game will crash...
Unit animations are lagy (compared to the original)
Also, they introduced a new file format for scenarios and campaigns wich makes compatibility a pain in the ass if you make something in HD and want to play it in the original (forwards compatibility from CD to HD still works tho)

Also, did i mention the multiplayer is lagy and buggy as fuck?

All in all tho, i love the expansions, thats pretty much the only reason i play on HD. And yes, i think they did a pretty darn good job with the expansions, especcialy the african kingdoms!

Broken multiplayer, nearly no improvements to a game, 10 dollar DLC that was a free mod. 30 dollars for a broken and buggy game with many outdated mechanics, no. Go buy Starcraft 2 or Warcraft 3 and its expansion.

I meant official multiplayer, which is well organized, quick and easy to access without the need for external programs besides steam and bringing back a larger player base. There will be a lot more players than there current is. You realize that, right?

It's out on the 9th, but if you pre-ordered you get to play on the 5th. However, it's available for pre-download now, which makes me think it could be a midnight release. We could be playing tonight.

Thx, may we all remember this day, as one of the best RTS games ever made is getting a HD redux and some othe nice little features (really looking foward to steam workshop) :D

With multiplayer that will be used more since it's on steam, They changed the water texture, theres mod support by using steam workshop, thats just a few changes but already its more than "just a higher resolution"

I got this last night. The graphics on my old one started to do this weird thing where the pixels changed colors. However this one does look a little better and multiplayer is much easier now. Don't think it's worth $20 but still, worth it for one of my favorite childhood games.

I'm so excited for this because of the easy accessability to the game, that it has Steam Workshop support so it's easy to download mods for the game (and there are great mods for AOE2 out there like Tales Of Middle Earth) and it will bring back players that are online. Not because of the new graphics, which is just a nice add on.

This game will probably help grow the scene, its much easier to just install from steam than custom instal everything, at least for most people.
