The insight that the "low power" mode on the M2 Pro is just as powerful if not more powerful than the M1 Pro running full tilt was a really cool find. I haven't seen anyone else mention this in their coverage.

@5:50min I believe the benchmarks shown are incorrect! The M2 is favored with 20% gain over the M1 on that particular test, but you are testing 8 cores (M1) vs 10 cores (M2).

Yesterday my 14" M2 Pro arrived and to be honest, I was a little bit surprised when it comes to its battery life and temperatures under my specific workload - that is, game development in Unity. Ofc. it is not that bad, Windows laptops are way worse, but I was expecting to run a bit longer than 3-4h with 80+ temps. But I am gonna try the low power mode and see how it goes.

This video is the best one of the M2 series, it finally shows reason big enough to win me over to M2 and the solution to a slower SSD speed. Overall fantastic job guys - as always, much appreciated!

Yes, in the M2 Pro it is interesting the detail that by selecting the low power option you get the same performance and with less energy consumption than having the M1 Pro at full power.

Well, I’m very excited I just got an M1 Pro 16” open box for $1600 and couldn’t be happier. Absolutely worth finding a lower priced older model.

Would love to see an even comp between both 10-Core CPU models. Would be more reasonable, as the old 14 Inch 8C is quite a bit cheapier nowadays, especially refurbished.

I guess not every tech YouTuber will cover every single angle/ detail. That's why I'm on a very selected channel.

@MaxTechOfficial the low power modes on these M2 macs are incredible.
I feel that the settings it applies to the tuning, clocking, and prioritizing efficiency should be the default settings for the laptops. The performance even while in low power mode is still better than most windows laptops and it keeps a better grip on the stress on the SOCs and helps so much with the thermal envelope. The engineering at Apple is something to behold for sure.

I ended up upgrading my wife to a renewed base Model 14” M1 Pro model from her M1 MacBook Air. Performance per $, I still think it’s one of the best deals. But if you were already in the market for a higher end MacBook Pro then go for the M2 series unless you need to save some money. If you do get the M2 series I’d just bump up the storage at least.

Good points. I got lost a bit in the comparisons on your graphs because of the switching positions of the M1 and M2's. Maybe if you introduce a visual difference to the M1 and M2 data lines I could track there movement better. Otherwise, thanks for the increased clarity you are definitely bringing to the order of things when comparing Apples to Apples

M2 speakers are WAY better balanced (a least in the 16"), but I can understand people not in the audio community being more inclined to gravitate towards a V shape frequency response since it is incredibly popular on the lower tier speakers and headphones that most people are used to. From the viewpoint of someone who mixes audio professionally (primarily dialogue) I would take the new tuning over the old tuning every day of the week.

Not all tech YouTubers are equally informed. It's like a secret society of the elite few, and I've got the golden ticket to their exclusive channel.

I grabbed a refurb base 16 inch Macbook M1 Pro in October. Really happy with my decision. Best laptop I’ve ever owned. Since I got it as a significant discount I’m fine with not having the new one, and I don’t need the added power at all anyway. I wanted it mainly for the fantastic display and great battery life.

Ordered one immediately after release. Thought that even with the slower ssd speed the upgreade over my mid 2014 MBP will be insane. Sadly the prices here in europe are eyewateringly expensive.

9 months later and he’s saying almost the same thing about the m3pro, except the wording changed. He now says with regards to 3d rendering on the m3pro “this is the one for you” even though it’s a minute and a few seconds difference in comparison between m2 pro and m3pro.

The coverage on M2 Pro Chips by @Max Tech has been great. I purchased the 12c/19c M2 Pro MacBook Pro with 1TB SSD based on all the info received so far. The SSD speeds were around 6k GBPS on the blackmagic speed test. The comparison I was looking for is this model vs the binned 10 core M2 Pro model.

Looking forward to a future Max Tech video on this.

I sold my M1 Pro 14” last year and regretted it. Just picked up an M2 Pro 14” to replace it and went for the 1TB model this time. Glad I did.
