And Tina laying down that bass line while jogging is the bomb.

This entire concert film (Stop Making Sense) is amazing. Well worth your time.

Back in the day… there were so many great bands and such good music everywhere you turned…. talent, writing like you can’t believe. The energy was so high because the music was that good. Bands also just loved to play and play they did, often until 2 in the morning, and we danced nonstop, what a time to be alive and part of the scene.

Byrne wanted to write a song about war that wasn't patriotic, or romantic, or cliched, so he decided to write about guerilla warfare from the perspective of people caught in the midst of it. He does something a bit similar with his only really romantic song, (Naive Melody). Byrne was always looking for ways to break with cliches that dominate so many pop songs

The best thing is they play 8 more songs after this. Lots of energy from a great band.

You can't overestimate the influence of aerobics in the 1980s. Cardio was everywhere.

Part of the fun of this song was dancing to it at a party or disco, and singing the chorus: "This ain't no party, this ain't no disco ..."

I saw them live during this tour and 42 years later and this is still my favorite band of all time, in my opinion Talking Heads is one of greatest bands of all time

‘I cannot help but move…’ Welcome to listening to Talking heads live. Saw them in 1981 and everyone danced themselves into a puddle of sweat. Have never been so knackered at the end of a gig but the smile on my face and everyone else’s was enormous!

That's Tina Weymouth on bass. She was also a founding member of the Tom Tom Club band that had a huge song "Genius of Love". She was a co-writer and sang it. Genius of Love has been sampled over 170 times by everyone from Hip-hop artists to TV commercials. You should listen to it.

One of the descriptions applied to them at the time was "The thinking man's dance band."

The stage performance is symbolic of the theme. Constant running, no time to rest.

Caught them on this tour in a small venue in Florida. Had to stand on our seats because the whole place was on their seats. Still in the top five concerts I've seen, and I've been to hundreds.

"Once In a Lifetime" by them is hilarious and essential at the same time. The video is one of the best ever made: simple but very effevtive.

As many other comments have noted, this video is an excerpt from the concert film "Stop Making Sense" from 1984 directed by academy award winning director Jonathan Demme (among his other movies is The Silence of the Lambs which won all five major Academy Awards - Best Picture, Director, Actor, Actress and Screenplay). It's an amazing concert AND simply an amazing movie. It is very often called the best concert film ever made. Even just in this video I love the cinematography - compositions look casual but I get the feeling that every shot and movement is very carefully worked out. I love the hint of audience members heads bopping to the music, the careful inclusion of band members in the backgrounds, the constant movement, the editing at times showing individual musicians then pulling back to show the entire stage. And the whole movie is like that. Each song is uniquely staged and captured by the cameras. Just a joy to watch (and, of course, to listen to)!

I was at this show at The Pantages Theater in Los Angeles with my buddy Pat.Well, at ONE of the shows because it was shot over four nights there in December of 1983. The cameras were a little bit irritating but we did know in advance that it was going to be filmed by Jonathan Demme for a concert film. Great show by a great band. Afterwards, seeing the film version I was very glad that it had been filmed for all to see in the future. A win for posterity...

And to answer your question. Yes. Thay have so many songs that were hits back then, and were known and loved for their querkiness. And their videos were all fun to watch.
