I have a z790 Godlike Max board I bought mainly for the insane storage and honestly can say I would pause before buying another one. but the side connections does make for a clean build. This was my first MSI board and honestly the bios leaves a lot to be desired.

Have you tested out the Godlike X870E? Many DIY users like myself have experienced issues with the M.2_1 slot dropping from Gen5 to Gen1 speeds after a cold boot. For myself if I warm boot right after it usually will get it up to Gen4 or Gen5 but there is no consistency.

There's a big thread on the MSI forums addressing it, users of the Tomahawk X870E also experienced this but a recent BIOS update fixed it. There is still no fix for Godlike X870E users though.

Crucial even made a statement last year there were reports of this bug on MSI X670E motherboards as well and they believe it's actually AMD who is at fault.

Most users aren't even aware of this issue as the average user isn't testing M.2 speeds daily so they are unaware, I myself was one of them until someone mentioned it in a comment on a Reddit post I made about how difficult it was installing the Godlike X870E inside the ASUS Hyperion GR701 tower that surprisingly got a lot of attention. MSI's response to myself and many others has been that there is nothing wrong with the MOBO and to just RMA it...

Many are in agreement this is unacceptable and grounds for a class action lawsuit.

1000 bucks? yeah no thanks. The Asrock b650 steel legend is only 180 bucks and it also has pcie gen five for both the m.2 and graphics card slots, and it also has plenty good vrms for a higher core count CPUs. But is pretty hard to get your hands on as it sells out pretty quick. Would definately reccomend

No, it is not worth it. Four months, and I still have problems with this motherboard. When I start the system, it seems to work, but after a reboot, it fails to boot. My RAM and SSD were checked; no errors at all. This is driving me crazy

I own this board and it has a really mean issue with the EZ bridge screen becoming corrupted and eventually failing putting you in a connect / disconnect loop. If you do a simple search on this issue, you’ll find the support thread where this is happening to a lot of owners. MSI has been rma’ing the board. It’s a shame for such a premium product. But now you have been warned.
