4:00, a vendor already had that feature in 1984. It was called "Crisis Alert" for System 75 PBX systems that's Avaya's legacy product.

I used to manager an old Nortel phone system and hated it. Switchvox is so easy to use and intuitive.

I've used Avaya systems and now that they are going bankrupt, it's disturbing to see such inferior "user features" and call quality and reliability going into the toilet. Unplugging phones to do MACs? if IT departments were smart enough, they'd go to the terminal, busy out the extension, busy out a port, clear a port, then change the port number to the extension per to the respective switch. I like priority calling, camp on, etc., and the Avaya's voicemail voice. The woman used for Asterisk is very "bossy" and probably didn't voice over every prompt with a smile.

If you come from 8, 000 port setup, using Cisco, Asterisk, etc is a BIG downgrade. To make this easier, SIP and modern VOIP is just POTS over the IP stack with some "shiny object" of features. But nothing that could match up to the traditional way of office phone systems for a generation.
