How We Create a Safe Space for LGBTQ+ in the Server (Check Description)

Actually! Gladly Global is an extremely LGBTQ+ safe space! As many of our team and members are fruitylicious-- and we have a base level amount of humanity pumping through our veins! :D 

One of the things we struggled with when starting our discord server (free community space) was figuring out ways to make LGBTQ+ people feel more natural, safe and seen. 

Our solution was to require people to put their pronouns in their nickname on the server, regardless of if you were trans or cisgender. The idea behind this is that we wanted to normalise the idea of having 'pronouns' and make trans people feel less obligated to explain or feel like they were the odd ones out. 

Still, we lost a LOT of people coming in because of this. We had meetings discussing whether or not we would continue to do this, but we decided that we want to prioritise our LGBTQ+ community's feeling of safety and belonging no matter what it did to our growth. 

Today, discord has recently decided to add a feature where you can disclose your pronouns on your account so we're considering updating our policy.
