Calabria in Southern Italy is not on a lot of tourists radar, WHY?!

All the experiences I did in Calabria, Italy, were hosted by Visit Mediterraneo, link below! Calabria, in Southern Italy is still not well known amongst international tourists. It has gorgeous coastal towns like Tropea and Scilla, with stunning turquoise seas, but for me, Calabria's true beauty lies in its rural interior, where you will find traditions that have been kept alive for generations, like the production of cheese, salami and making pasta by hand. The Calabrian people are so proud of their land and produce, and the experiences I did were amazing because I got to immerse myself in the Calabrian culture and way of life. Calabria also has many ghost towns, villages that have been abandoned for several decades, and Pentedattilo is one which is set in the Aspromonte mountains with views to the mediterranean sea, you can still walk through the ruins of the abandoned homes. B&Bs and artisan shops have been opening up, and tourists are starting to visit the village. I was hosted by Calabria Etnica which owns several homes, link below. I highly recommend a trip to Calabria for an authentic taste of Italian food, traditions and hospitality!

What a beautiful portrayal of Calabria. I'm of Calabrian descent and have visited twice with the most recent visit this past May. I'm fortunate to have family that is still there who are incredibly generous and hospitable. Calabria is a special place and deserves much more attention than it gets.
