I asked Lee Janzen a similar question and the response was very close about belief. He said what separates the tour player from mini tour player is the mini tour pro hopes to play well and the tour pro knows he's going to play well.

Early in my professional career, I had trouble with my sand shots. One day, I spent 3 hours in a bunker trying to get it. At about the 2.5 hour point, I was cooked, ready to give up, mentally defeated. I kept at it and suddenly, I was hitting it great from the bunker. I've never had an issue with bunker play since. My breakthrough was my breakdown. I was so frustrated to the point of breakdown. When I let it have its way with me and stop trying so hard, it all came together for good. I don't think there are any short cuts around this process. I don't think you can simply say "I won't try so hard." You have to try so hard it breaks you. That's when the breakthrough happens.

Straight up common sense is not appealing to many nowadays. In fact, not only is this legend's advice not found helpful, he is ridiculed. These social media nobodys have it all figured out. Meanwhile many of the world's best players savor even a few minutes on the range with him...

Unwavering commitment and unerring that few have or can maintain. Bernhard Langer always springs to mind.

The part he forgot is that ALL great players were great putters. It's pretty damned hard to beat the guy who made 58 out of 58 from inside 10 feet for the week. And putting is not a God given gift. These guys go beyond everyone else to find out how to putt. It is not as simple as most people believe. The rules of golf demand that the putter shaft come up at an angle to the blade for a reason. Most people don't even know that SBST is the absolute worst way to putt. That's because they know NOTHING about putting. They think luck will be with them every day and it never is that way.

For sure today's mindset is not one of spending hours mastering a particular shot, but, pity the scratch player watching this who has spent 1000s of hours grinding their way to their current level only to be told their attitude, commitment, self-belief, etc are holding them back.
