In the 1970's we went to the Isle of Wight for a week's holiday and visited Osborne House which was pure magic. We also went to Cowes to see the Royal yacht with the Royal Family on board and saw Prince Phillip taking Charles and Anne out in their boat from the Royal Yacht Britannia. the Isle of Wight albeit small was pure magic. This post brings back so many wonderful memories, as my husband and elder son are no longer with us.

I can see why Queen Victoria bought this property and allowed Prince Albert's fantastic building imagination go wild. Truly beautiful!!

This is the best documentary I have ever seen of Osborne House. Beautifully filmed and narrated, thank you.

I love how the interior has a light, airy feeling to it --- so different from the dark, wooded tartan-bedecked interior of Balmoral. At Osborne House, I can see how the Royal Family felt they could relax and breathe freely.

I was there on the 8th September and I totally agree, it is a magnificent place. You truly feel you have taken a peek into the lives of Victoria and Albert. The beach is so peaceful and the scenery is amazing. I went by hovercraft from Portsmouth to IOW and back. It was on the way back I learnt of the passing of Queen Elizabeth. Thank you for posting this and letting me see it all again. Absolutely beautiful place.

Beautifully done, thank you! This gives a really great picture of what a visit to Osborne is like. I grew up just down the road from Osborne (in much humbler surroundings, of course!). Back then, you could pay to visit the grounds and Swiss Cottage separately, which was cheaper, and made for a lovely walk, especially in summer. One thing I would point out is that it is the Durbar Room, not the Dunbar Room. Durbar was the name for a court or official reception held by an Indian prince. One of my favourite places in the house, along with the corridor of portraits that leads to it.

Excellent video on the beautiful Osborne House. I can see why it was a beloved retreat for the royal family, just as is Balmoral. Lovingly preserved and so well presented here. Greetings from southwestern USA.

I can see why this was a favourite place of Queen Victoria’s. Privacy and the ability for the whole family to relax. The grounds and the pavilion are beautiful. The dining room ceiling, the drawing room and Albert’s study were my favourite. The children must have spent hours in that playhouse. Thanks so much Simon and Will. It was a real treat having a tour of Osborne House ❤Edit:I have no idea why but every time I comment on your channel my comment is duplicated, I have to delete it, do the same again and it’s only on the third attempt it doesn’t duplicate. So from now on I’m not going through this 3x, there’ll be a duplicate 😬

What an amazing place, the art, architecture and the furniture inside and the grounds. I can see why Queen Victoria would hide herself away here. Thanks and take care as always. =-)

This by far the grandest Country Home for the royals I’ve ever seen. It warms my heart to learn that Prince Albert & Queen Victoria had the little house & gardens (for fruit/veg & flowers) built & fully furnished in order for their 9 children learn marketing, gardening, cooking, sewing, etc skills. Prince Albert & Queen Victoria understood the incredible importance of these skills which is remarkable considering the time period. Simon, u did a spectacular job in finding out & sharing the historical aspects &stunning beauty of Osborne House. I could watch this video over & over & not tire of it. Thank u, thank u, thank u! I really appreciate u both so very, very much. Take care, 😉.

Wow, what a beautiful place! I can't believe her children did not share her passion for the place. I sure do.
