Crumar Mojo 61 vs Nord Electro 5d vs Rhodes mk1

Comparison between the Rhodes sounds from the Crumar Mojo 61 and Nord Electro 5d (61) and an original Rhodes mk1 from 1975. Just recorded with an Iphone SE to give you a rough idea.
Everything is connected to a JBL EON615 and a litlle mixer. All EQ is set flat. The mojo and the nord got several rhodes samples. On the nord it is the Suitcase MK1 close ideal on the mojo it is the "sweet" since I am comparing it to a mk1.
The Mojo got options to change the sound ,for example the pickup positions but you need to connect a phone/tablet/pc . On the Nord you cannot edit piano sounds.
Nord offers 8 rhodes Crumar 9 but 2 seem to be the same and 1 is like a muted version .(just the atack)
Anyway you only need 1! When I play the real rhodes i never think"i need another rhodes" This seems to be the problem with computerbased keyboard. Atleast for me, after a while you get little bored with it. So the winner is: The rhodes mk1!
Feel free if you have any questions.

The Crumar and Nord both have excellent 'simulations'. I'd be happy to use either in live or studio situations. But neither come close to matching the dynamic range of actual hammers hitting actual tines going into an actual preamp...it is what it is.

The mojo is closer to my ears. Love your playing as always Tommy!

Thanks for the upload! Again, all great sounds here - I have preferences (as we all do!) but minor differences that boils down to personal taste, in my opinion, but such warmth from all.

I've owned three Rhodes pianos and loved them all. I now have a Mojo61 and would not trade it for a Rhodes. I'm glad to have the better keybed and transportable footprint of the Mojo and still get that beautiful Rhodes sound. I prefer even my Yamaha Reface CP over getting another Rhodes.

I'm not an expert/Pro player. I owned a Rhodes 73 Mk1, it weighted a ton, the action was heavy and in time I figured it could damage my finger joints. The key tops were not flat, every key was just off horizontal. Gliss down = easy, gliss up = saw blade! Yes very expressive but not worth the downsides.

now THIS is a Rhodes!! Row-addssss....no limit to what it can do....lim-it....(Black Sheep reference)
In seriousness, I think I like the Nords Wurli better, and the Mojos Rhodes better. I think Wurli benefits from the samples moreso, whereas the physical modeling handles Rhodes business pretty. I think its the Kurzweils that use modeling AND samples for their electric pianos, which really is the best.

I've had both an Electro 3 and the GSI Gemini, which is the same sound engine as the Mojo. The Gemini errs a little too much on the high end, but it has eight different options for a Rhodes while the Nord has four, and there's a lot more refinement on individual parts of the sound--you have several options for a more "tinkly" sound, several for a more "barky" sound, and a lot of presets meant to give classic Rhodes-&-amp combos. I think the Mojo takes it because there's a lot more options to get the Rhodes to your individual tastes.

I think Crumars modelling is amazing, the nord sounds okay but I’m done with samples, they don’t have the same feel.

Crumar sounds the closest but the Nord is not far behind. I personally have never connected with the Nord stuff. It's like kissing a manikin in place of a warm blooded woman.

Hi, can you tell me how fast is to switch sound engine on the mojo61? I have to switch between organ and Epiano very fast, is it possible to switch sound while playing without any hiccups in the sound? I can't find this information anywere...

I own a 73 Mark I Rhodes, the Crumar Mojo and a Nord Stage Ex. In my opinion the crumar is far away from the rhodes in case of sound and playability. It is nice to have, so i don´t have to carry two Keyboards to a rehearsal. But not more. I have the Mark I Sample in the Nord Stage (should be the same in the Electro 5) and its much more authentic and has the bell-like attack. On recordings it is hard to identify, if it is the Nord or the real rhodes. Anyway I would never give away the Rhodes. It has soul.

they should make the keyboards on the clones really stiff, mushy and unplayable if you really want in authentic rhodes/wurlitzer experience

can the mojo control another keyboard with midi out while still being able to play its own internal sounds?

what type of stand are you using for the mojo and the nord? Is the nord sitting on top of the mojo or is there some type of shelf?

DO NOT waste your money on CRUMAR products. The company does not stand behind them.
