Sometimes waiting for what's around the corner is really worth it, the M1 chips prove this.

There’s a sense of urgency these software companies have to feel right now. Most of these apps are not native. This is an opportunity for new fledgling software app companies to program their apps to take advantage of Metal & all the media engines on the M1 chip. Imagine the performance of 3D modeling, renders, video decoding/encoding, photogrammetry then? I hope these new app companies can give the legacy companies a run for their money.

For anyone who's interested: Yes the 12 core Xeon Mac Pro "beat' the MacBook Pro in that Logic test... however in real world use, the way faster single core speed of the MacBook Pro is actually a big advantage over the Mac Pro. With music production software, it's all good and well if you have more and more cores to spread out the processing. But it only takes one core being maxed out and all playback will stop, even if the rest of the cores aren't even close to being overtaxed. There are tons of situations in music production where this happens. For example if you're playing a CPU intensive software synth in real time with a bunch of effect plug ins on top if it while the rest of your song is playing back, that one core running that synth can easily run out of steam. And when that happens, it doesn't matter if your computer has 8 CPU cores or 200 CPU cores... everything stops. The only way around this is faster single core speed. So while that Mac Pro would be a beast as a studio mixing system, an M1 Max MacBook Pro could probably still be a better writing/composing machine for most people.

This validates my feeling that my 64GB M1 Max was actually a good deal. Of course it'll be interesting to see the eventual Apple Silicon Mac Pro and what that system will do.

I believe Apple new full well, while creating the new Mac Pro, that it would likely be the single greatest marketing piece to push their own SOC's, once released.

I am so impressed with the 16 inch M1 Max Mac Book Pro, and I am so glad that I got one, which just happened to have arrived this afternoon. Been setting it up, got my Adobe set up. A while ago I plugged the 140 Watt Mag Safe charger and it is already 100 % charged. I just opened Illustrator and it is already up and ready. So amazing. I also tried out the Neural Filters in the new M1 Optimized version of Creative Cloud's Photoshop, that is awesome, and it was so smooth. I also tried the 3D effects in Illustrator. I am so glad that I got the M1 Max Mac Book Pro.

I ordered my Mac Book Pro on October 18, as soon as it was available for purchase. Originally, it was going to be delivered Dec 10th - 23rd, then the next day, they said November 17th-24th. Then got moved up to November 15th.

When you are testing 4K video editing, can you use a more complex project? Add effects, different tracks, etc. It looks like you don't work with heavy projects at all.

TOO GREEN CALIBRATION ISSUE?? Thanks Max! Did u also see that these new Macbook with MiniLED has litte too much green in calibration? I did realize that when i connect my 32" Pro Display XDR, there is a huge difference in clean white and also ins greys like the grey seen in calendar when using Dark Mode! Can u test these with a colorimeter ? Iam 100% sure that i see this issue on Devices seen in your videos too !!

Look at the bright side, you can always repurpose that Mac Pro as a cheese grater.

Im not sure how you are getting those video editing times. New 14" MacBook Pro 10c 16c GPU, and 16G of Ram. My Rysen 3600 6c Hackintosh was 2 minutes faster at exporting the same 10 minute FCP project. The MacBook was only using about 20% of the CPUs?? I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong.

Well Max, at least you'll have this Intel Mac Pro for a comparison with a M1 Max Quadro or Duo Mac Pro.

this is truly impressive
but it's interesting how the MacBook will behave in work. not just throw a one-minute raw video onto the timeline, but really a working project. and not just open it there, but collect it! the same goes for logic tests. two hundred tracks of one synthesizer. Serious? and where is the automation, the variety of different libraries?
in general, I wonder what he is like in real work
