If I'm not mistaken, @In The Mix once gave the tipp to cut out unaudible low and high frequencies to minimize useless signals, which still add to the loudness of the track, which is what the point at 16:35 onwards is on about. So if you want better, cleaner and the ability to do louder mastering, then make sure to really cut excesive low and highs at around 18+kHz, which most people either can't hear or won't ever notice, before limiting. Plus this should also help the tweeters and subs on speaker systems not having to strain and produce excessive noise, which I think could lead to a better sounding stage. Just thought it would be nice to spread a little food for thought :)

Man Im trying to get thru this but the inhaling process you possess is a lot to overlook.

I know jump cuts are all the rage right now, but the natural pauses people take while speaking to collect a thought before verbalising it is just as useful to the listeners as it is to the speaker. I think if you dialled back the editing, I know the pauses would add up, but it would be more 'chunkable' for viewers if you let us all catch our breath - or should i say your breath.

Thanks for the knowledge nonetheless!

Short answer: Master no louder than -9 LUFS short-term at the loudest moments
(with True Peaks no higher than -1)

If you turn off normalization in Spotify I noticed most aren’t mastering at -14 for Spotify they are going hard lol. I can hear it on songs I know well

I’m glad that the war of loudness will be over soon. Maybe it already is. But I'm really shocked by the fact that they can make your track louder. I don't mind if my tracks will be turned down. It still sounds the same and the listener can turn the volume up themselves. But I don't want any limiting on it after the master that I approved. So. If people choose the 11lufs option. I have to make every single track at least 11lufs or louder. I'm a bit disappointed about that.

I took this to mean I should aim for -11.5 avg LUFS for my tracks based on your advice (contrary to Spotify's recommendation of -14). So, I did that. Mastered 27 tracks that way. Seemed like a good idea. But now on Spotify, those tracks sound turned down and the high end presence is missing. I do not think this idea worked. Or my implementation of it did not work.

do you have a video on how to match these recommended levels?? Mixing to a true peak is simple enough but I don't quite understand LUFS

I keep coming back to this vid, xD, I really need to start understand RMS and Peak Limiting man...

I have a track I’m mastering, now it’s pretty loud overall (not a lot of quiet parts) so the integrated LUFS is pretty loud altho momentary one is not super loud. So on one hand, if I use a limiter pretty hard, the overall sound will be louder but might be taken down more on Spotify etc. if I go lighter with the limiter then it would be lower volume to begin with... Would it matter at all? How would you go about it?

I still don't understand, why should we for -9/-11lufs instead of -14lufs?

I uploaded almost an year ago an ep on spotify and i immediately noticed that it just slowed the songs, like the bpm was lower, how can that be explained? i made sure i was't just confused i listened both versions several times.

is it the same for soundcloud? anyone know what algorithm soundcloud uses? I aim around -8 LUFs integrated but recently i backed off on the mix and i uploaded a track at -11LUFs and found its a lot quieter and doesnt have the same energy as my other tracks

Sites like LANDR become more and more enticing after watching videos like these. Very informative, but so is calculus. but thanks still.

I wish presenters took what they were saying seriously enough to make more accessible. The style drowns out much of the substance here and this left me more annoyed by the confused and incomprehensible noise stream clouding the information. We all need successful mentors who can help us recognize when the comedy has trashed the value of what we are doing. I hope this evolves.
