The main reason that Threadripper boards are so expensive is because of the amount of IO crammed into them.

It's the same reason why the Skylake x boards are more expensive than the non x boards.

The 1800x is still a great value, iv'e personally seen it for around 420 dollars (insert terrible marijuana joke here), not to mention that b350 motherboards still allow overclocking, and most of them are under 100 dollars.

With all that said, I believe that the 1700 is the best value. That CPU is able to overclock to near the 1800x, and as of the time that I am writing this, is under 300 dollars.
