The new remote is the improvement that sounds most appealing to me. The main reason I have 2 Ultras is that it’s the only Roku with ethernet. Since mine are hardwired, the WiFi isn’t really important. If I didn’t plan to hardwire them, I wouldn’t see much benefit to the Ultras in the first place.

Wifi 6E is a great option .. but a big reason I have a Roku Ultra is the USB port.. it makes it very easy to take a folder of videos, images, . Txt doc from my laptop to a larger TV screen

Sounds great! We're still rocking the 2023 ROKU Ultra 4K. It's been a huge improvement over our older unit. Simply amazing...

Thankfully they still include a USB 3.0 which enables you to connect a USB stick. By putting your favorite music on a USB stick, you can play your sounds through your home theater system.

In case anyone doesn't know, wifi 6 has even worse object penetration than wifi 5. It also suffers from speed drop off with distance than wifi 5. The higher frequency is worse. Unless you have a clear and short line of sight, it's not an improvement really. A gig port would be nice...

I have an Ultra. My gripe is they keep downgrading the seach function and have eliminated anyway i can find to give them feedback, feels shady.. More and more search results just lead to paying apps.

The new Roku ultra does not have a gigabit ethernet port. The device has a 100-megabit port.

Its interesting, I wonder if Roku have improved accessibility for blind eople, like for instance screen reader improvements and support in apps.

Interesting to note that it buffers loads more on my wired experience than when I connect to WiFi. I have gigabit internet, and WiFi I’m generally realizing 300+mps from my Unifi access points, but testing the switch output I’m in the 700-1, 000 mbps range. So the 100mbps I’m allowed on Roku is the only thing I can think of for the poorer performance.

It’s on sale already on the ROKU website. But it may go on sale for Black Friday.

I am really enjoying this, but when is it going to be in stores for me to get all that?

I went and looked at the specs. It -SEEMS- to be minor upgrade overall to prior. Little bit more CPU and storage and Wifi, general capability appears the same. I believe the same price of $99 tends to reflect it's essentially the same device. This means the Nvidia Shield is still the only one that can handle lossless audio. Although I can tell Roku has been dinking with their sound in their code (behavior has changed) so I am still hopeful.

Luke, I wonder why Roku didn't go ahead and add wifi 7. That would future proof this excellent product for years to come.

I will probably purchase this new Roku that includes the rechargeable remote and the improved wi-fi. I almost purchase the new remote the other day, but will wait for this.

Where can I go to buy the brand new Roku Ultra 2024? So often with on-line sellers (incl. Amazon) there is no way to confirm which model year they are selling. Roku needs to make this patently clear, or we will suspect them of off-loading old inventory. Got it, Roku?

Roku has always had a better upgrade, so I buy the new model when it comes out. WiFi 6 is nice, but no wireless is ever as solid, reliable and secure as direct ethernet connections. Not even a comparison. I like the 30 percent faster processor, and I do not understand why people, at least a majority of us, wouldn't notice the speed increase. That is very important to have any increase in speed, especially 30 percent. And I have definitely noticed the speed increase in each new model. Personally, they should include more RAM system memory, and hopefully that will happen, but I digress. The minimum should be 8 GB of system RAM memory. A factor of better cooling should also continue to get better, because that has always been the issue with streaming boxes, external connections and mini-PCs. I like they are upgrading the remote. Although the rechargeable Pro remote is advantageous, there are a couple of random hickups that I hope the new remote will fix and address. I adamantly disagree WiFi 6 is the best feature, because true reliability and secure enthusiasts, which should be all of us, only care about Ethernet direct connections. And a faster processor is the most important, along with the upgraded Pro remote with the new streaming model. Bigger internal storage is also nice, as well as the USB connection for the streaming files on the USB external storage sticks and drives. I use that feature a lot. They need to upgrade that to USB-C for faster overall speed from external USB devices, but I digress. My biggest gripe with Roku Media Player software playing video files from the USB external devices is not being able to select subtitle files for the appropriate movie file. The only way alternatively is to use a software program, or similar, called Handbrake to "burn-in" the subtitles to the video file directly, especially when it is a foreign language and you need the English subtitle. The only down side is you then have it permanently on the video file on screen and do not have the choice to turn the subtitles on and off. This probably isn't a huge problem since foreign non-English speaking movies need subtitles anyway. My point is we should have the choice in Roku Media Player to manually select the subtitles file from the file directory it is in for that particular movie file. Update: the biggest downside is, you guessed it: the new model has A.I. and machine learning, which uses prediction in what to watch next, and your streaming likes and views. I hate this. AI should have never been created, for obvious reasons, and the consumer never got a vote on it. You have no control over your privacy and data, and what gets shared and used with AI. This is wrong. It is why I am not upgrading my phone, graphics card and computer motherboard until we can be guaranteed the choice. I think this new Roku box is better, but not because of the AI. I am on the fence on buying it at all now.
