Have you ridden single speed? What was your experience? What gear set up should I go with next!?

What i love about single speeds is the fact that u can just hop on and ride away, day in and day out. Easy to clean, nothing to break or smash, nothing to adjust. Its just you getting on the bike and pedalling away.

I grew up riding bmx bikes for transportation purposes. Was always on it, loved it. Stopped once I got my license. I bought a couple geared bikes as a grown up but I never liked it. The chain flopping around was really irritating for me. And all the maintenance of all that extra crap. I just fixed up a single speed and it seems perfect for me. I don’t look like a old man riding bmx bike around town, and I don’t have to worry about all the technology below my feet.

single speed got me into cycling, I bought a cheap bike and I didn't know anything about derailleurs
but I was handy so I cut the chain into a single speed
once I was on the road I was hooked, then fixed gear, then road biking
and currently I am planning my second tour from SF to LA : ) full on roadie : )

It's sad that there are few single speed 'influencers' out there we need more of you guys. SINGLE SPEED IS KING.

I moved to single speed from a waaay heavy 21-speed and I've never loved biking more. Love the simplicity of the setup and how you-powered it is, ha! Thank you for the video!

I switched from my geared bike to a single speed and I have beaten all my personal records. I am just faster than before.

42x16 I live in a hilly area and it works great. My geared bike is almost unused this year thanks to how much more fun the Single is, it just feels more nimble.

I’m a 65 year old Brit, and I’ve just completed a Portugal end to end on a fixed gear. I was a reasonable cyclist already but fixed gear improved me no end. Portugal (particularly the north) is hilly and After much trial and error decided on a 34/15 gear setup. Could zig zag up up the more extreme gradients but downhill was spinning like a madman. On reflection I would have fitted a back break, reversed the hub and freewheeled those descents, though compromising the fixed gear ethic. Love the challenge.

Yo! I’m in Reno too! I literally just bought a single speed bike 5 minutes ago! I watched your video and it made me really happy. Thanks!

I love my newly purchased single speed. As you’ve mentioned it is bomb proof as far as it not falling apart at the drive train a couple times a ride, or the drive train not doing what you ask of it leaving you to work around it till it works it self out. If not you’re forced to get off the bike to fix it yourself which is a dirty and unnecessary job when you have an alternative single speed. Also my new single speed bike doesn’t have a front suspension, or seat post suspension, and it isn’t even noticed whatsoever. That and the more simplified drive train brings down the weight, and a sleeker frame does that too along with it looking nicer which simplicity/practicality is not only an even better looker, but again the overall practicality of being more reliable, and easier to lift when needed puts a smile on my face.

From a comform perspective its suggested to have as per sheer strength I always go for a single speed especially you get a lot of attention appreciation from ur cycling group/community when u are covering same distance as of other with gears🤙

Can you do a video on how to change a chain on a single speed bike, I like the way you explain things compared to other youtubers

1x is my final form... I've ridden all kinds of bikes since age 2... It's like the best compromise

I commute to the park and grocery store on a plus size single speed beach cruiser with 3 inch wheels. I love it because it's super easy to fix absorbs all side walk bumps because I don't like the road. I can get up hills pretty easy but I focus on momentum and power just before hitting the hill. The coaster brake doesn't seem to require maintenance for over a year because the bike slows on it's own once you stop pedaling. When there's wind though it becomes tiring. I do want something with more speed now, but I feel like any smaller tires will feel faster so SS over gears would still be my choice. Are you plus size road tires on your bike, let me know the size and the kind of bike. Thanks for sharing your story.

I like the style of my single speed cruiser. It was very affordable. I am thinking about adding a three speed rear hub though.

My single speed is a mountain bike 29er my gears is 33x15 number use it for endurance riding going up hills sprinting lot of miles on a single speed so when the spring summer time come I get back on my road bike I'll be strong that's why I want that to be my training bike for the winter
