The Legendary 'Flat Iron Jim'

On my way to completing the Superstition Icon Loop, I was lucky enough to run into Flat Iron Jim, who has become a local legend on the Siphon Draw Trail. In case you don't know, the hike up to Flat Iron is well known as a very difficult, steep and physically demanding hike/scramble/climb.

At 90 years old, Jim has climbed the Siphon Draw Trail to Flat Iron around 300 times over the last 9 years!!

WHAT IS YOUR EXCUSE?

If you are lucky enough to run into Jim on trail, you are in for a treat! His zeal for life is infectious. He's happy, healthy & wonderfully friendly. A great example of the kind of human we should all want to be.

Be like Jim.

Just saw Jim today for the first time in person. Was my second ascent of Flatiron. I am 45 and can't imagine still being able to do this after another 45 years. So amazing!

Just met him today not knowing who he was. But I saw his shirt & read it and I just knew that I needed to stop him and chat with him. He was so kind, witty and humbly inspirational ❤
