The Challenges of Navigating a Grocery Store

Riddle: What activity requires a degree in economics, nutrition, medicine, cooking, organization to do correctly? Grocery shopping in the US. I can barely manage it and god forbid if I end up at a new grocery store - I am like a lost dog.

Navigating the maze of any grocery store is nearly impossible and we don't acknowledge the difficulty enough. Here I am talking about healthy eating and healthy cooking, when that's only the start of what's needed.

What tips to you have for navigating all these choices?

I couldn't agree more! We go into grocery stores with very little information and doesn't help that we are met up with too many things to pick from!

Dear Dr.,

RE SALT:
I have a beef to beef about:
I have been cook for much of my life.

Now that I have reached the august age of 70, and am dealing with a body that needs a lot more care… Specifically I need to watch my salt intake because I have stage three kidney disease....

Watching YouTube, I see many people pouring lots and lots of salt into things they cook....coincidentally, many of these specific Youtubers look to be at most 40 years old. It's easy to throw salt around if you prefer to be oblivious about consequences....

But as you may know, with age people reap what they have sown, ie olders like me, if I ingest a lot of salt, I kinda feel shitty… Probably more because I'm trying to feel for my kidneys, which I want to keep as long as possible....

These young cooks pouring salt with abandon--their karma, will happen, as it should (I didn't set this whole reap&sow thing up, and I don't wish any bad on these cooks, but...)
