Professor Derk-Jan Dijk FMedSci is Professor of Sleep and Physiology at the University of Surrey.

Professor Dijk gave this presentation ‘The why and how of human sleep research’ as part of the Academy of Medical Sciences New Fellow's Admissions Day 2018, held on 27 June. On this day, the Academy welcomed newly elected Fellows for their formal admission.

We sleep because everything is a simulation and sleep saves lots of power needed to run the simulation .
