Another detail I wanna add to this comparison is: if you’re using both assistants in Spanish, Siri is complete and absolute garbage, while Google is fast, flawless and understands more complex tasks

Also, congrats Josh on this comprehensive video with an excellent explanation

Kinda off topic but thanks for captioning all of your videos, it must've been annoying captioning the parts where Assistant and Siri were talking over each other!

I have both set up, but I have leaned towards the Google Home simply due to ROUTINES. I LOVE Google's Routines. Simple to set up and more intuitive than Apple's Shortcuts and Automations.
Hopefully this will be made better in the future, ALSO, BRING BACK the Homepod (larger one). I love that thing, and it is essential as a companion device to the smaller pods.
IMHO.

Being able to hang my Nest mini anywhere was a big selling feature.

The HomePod mini appears to be aimed at someone who lives entirely in the Apple ecosystem and isn’t prepared to consider anything else.

I own them both. HomePods in stereo for Apple TV in the bedroom with Nanoleaf lights works great. $39 for Nest mini so I run in a few rooms to for all my cheap wifi lights around the house .

I definitely went the Google route, thanks to your videos. 😁

Nest minis are constantly on sale too. I haven't spent more than $30 on one. Often times spending less than $15 on the older Gen models

8:50 This is 𝐍𝐎𝐓 really correct. For HomeKit devices In your home, you 𝐎𝐍𝐋𝐘 need a hub device when you need to 𝐑𝐄𝐌𝐎𝐓𝐄𝐋𝐘 𝐂𝐎𝐍𝐓𝐑𝐎𝐋 your devices when you’re 𝐅𝐀𝐑 from your home. Let’s say at miles away at work and you want to switch off the lights at home. But if you’re in the kitchen or you’re walking up to the main door or pulling up in the driveway, you can definitely control every HomeKit devices in your house 𝐖𝐈𝐓𝐇𝐎𝐔𝐓 any hub. The hub device can either be just an Apple TV or an old iPad that’s always at home, or a HomePod or HomePod mini.

You can mute the HomePod mini by saying “Stop listening”, unmute it in the Home app.

If you think I should get the Nest Home Mini, you clearly don’t understand my need for catfish minutiae.

But when you actually tries both, you will realize that the nest mini can't always give you respond and sometimes it starts to play music for no reason

Something else to note, the G next mini can be hung on a wall.
When someone calls me, *using Duo*, my mobile device and all nest devices ring. This setting can be changed to your liking.

Thank you! I own all Apple devices but their smart home / assistant capabilities are subpar. This video helped me choose Google for my home automation. Thanks!

I only want the HomePod over the nest because if the sound quality that’s it

Now that Apple has released the 2nd Gen and the mini probably has updates to the services they offer any chance for an updated video? The mini colors are the best. I wish the new 2nd Gen had similar to like colors. If I had one of these I would use it for music and as a smart speaker. Can't imagine listening to podcasts or placing phone calls with the device

Considering this speaker... Great Video!

9:20 This is 𝐍𝐎𝐓 really correct... Actually, You can change the settings so that the HomePod is 𝐕𝐈𝐒𝐈𝐁𝐋𝐄 and 𝐔𝐒𝐀𝐁𝐋𝐄 to anyone else who is on your WiFi network. It will still not work even if it’s a foreign Apple Device trying to control it. But as long as you share the password for HomePod, and any other device trying to control it 𝐈𝐒 𝐂𝐎𝐍𝐍𝐄𝐂𝐓𝐄𝐃 to the 𝐒𝐀𝐌𝐄 𝐖𝐈𝐅𝐈 as the HomePod, they 𝐂𝐀𝐍 use the HomePod. The default settings are that the HomePod -mini- is only controlled by the people who share the home initially added there for the usual other HomeKit enabled devices.

this is incorrect, you can mute Siri. you just tell the HomePod to stop listening, then it will confirm that is what you want to do, then once you’re ready for it to listen you just manually activate it then tell it to start listening. ( this can also be controlled in the home app under the HomePod settings )
