I have had the Keter 31 Gallon Planter outside in the elements for 2 years and here is how it looks today! So far the Keter Easy Grow system does work well even with someone who does not have a green thumb!

Let me know what you do to keep the deer away!

as a wildlife biologist the only thing that will deter them is building a fence that will stop them from getting to your crops.

Regarding deers: You could try to put an "invisible" fence arround the box. All you would need for that are 2- 4 poles and then attach a clear fishing line in 2 different hights arround the box.

When deer bump into an obstacle that is invisible to them, this usually stops them from moving on.

What can also help is to hang up old cd's / dvd's. This is often done here to keep deer away from roads as reflcting surfaces frighten them.

Wind chimes or colorful decorations that should be moved regularly may also help.

I use bird netting, and bamboo stakes. I put stakes in the 4 corners and wrap the bird netting around them, IT WORKS

If it was me, I'd drill a few drainage holes in the sides. Nothing that's going to compromise the structural integrity, just a few drain holes on each side about 4" below the soil level. This is what the guys who make the big self-watering agricultural planter pots do (the ones with a loop of 6" pipe in the bottom to hold water).
So interested in a couple or three of these but I already have a large Vegepod system I'm not making best use of.

Have you tried using a citronella plant? This is what I read 👉 Citronella plants can thrive in full to part sun and can grow in any well-draining soil. ... Mosquito plants are drought and heat tolerant and deer resistant. The Citronella plant is hardy in zones 9-11. Also mint can overtake your garden, plant it by itself.😊

Some folks in one of my garden groups say to use male or dog urine to keep the deer away

I have no good advice to keep deer away, but the plant container is smart with water indicator and drainage hole👍

Try putting up a wire fence inside the planter or a fence around the entire planter to keep the deer away. ...or you can hunt the deer down and make some sausage since you've already supplied the perfect home grown seasoning 😋.

Fences, tall and wide around things you wish to keep. You can try plants that deer don't particularly like like marigolds, salvias, lavender, thorny plants and those that are fuzzy, like lambs ear. Plant them around and through areas where you have deer issues.
That Keeter bed is nice . Is that one spout enough drainage?

I got this planter this year and it is challenging compared to my city pickers garden beds. The major flaw is there should be openings to let the water out at some point. I'm seriously considering adding holes to it.

I have heard that deer don't like Irish Spring Soap. Never encountered this problem before.

Try using blood meal. You will need to reapply after a rain or watering.

Venison will get rid of the deer. Just kidding. Wire mesh all around and supported in the four corners will work.

I am thinking about buying this planter. The instructions on the web site say if you plan to leave it out where it's exposed to rainfall to use it as an "open" system. Does this imply that you leave the drain caps out during assembly and you leave the end drain valve open all the time? Does it have a set reservoir of water that would drain out automatically if it gets above a certain water height level?

Crushed red pepper will help keep the deer away, as well as raccoons or opossums

I've had my Keters for two years. I have not been able to grow anything in them. I don't know what is wrong. Few seeds come up then are gone. What does come up never thrives. I used raised bed soil, fertilizer, DE and snail bait for bugs and snails. Also ended up put row covers over it to stop anything from eating plants. NOTHING!

Put the planter on your deck if you have one. I put growbags on my deck 3 yrs in a row with huge success x an occasional squirrel.
Trouble posting my tip 4 deer. See these items on Amazon, you'll get it.

Hi. Thanks for the video! Did you put any kind of filler at the bottom before adding soil? Like rocks, sticks, cardboard, etc. Just wondering if filler would prevent the reservoir from doing its thing.
