Hashimoto's Blood Tests - 9 Tests EVERYONE Needs

9 Hashimoto's blood tests that every patient with Hashimoto's thyroiditis should get. These tests are required to check for immune function, thyroid function, inflammation, and much more. Every patient with Hashimoto's should get them.

Hashimoto's thyroiditis is a condition which causes low thyroid function but it is different from run of the mill hypothyroidism.

And because it is different, you should not evaluate it in the same way that you would evaluate regular hypothyroidism.

If you have Hashimoto's there are certain tests BEYOND those which are used to diagnose thyroid function that you should be aware of and that you should get.

Getting these Hashimoto's lab tests and blood tests will help you figure out how well your immune system is working, which nutrient deficiencies may be playing a role in your thyroid function, and also give you an idea as to how advanced your Hashimoto's disease is.

Get THESE lab tests if you have Hashimoto's and, in fact, I recommend that all patients with thyroid disease get these labs as well (even if you don't know if you have Hashimoto's).

9 Blood tests to get with Hashimoto's include:

#1. Anti tpo antibodies
#2. Thyroglobulin antibodies
#3. ESR
#4. CRP
#5. Vitamin D
#6. TSH
#7. Free T3
#8. Free T4
#9. Reverse T3

Do you have Hashimoto's? Have you checked for all of these lab tests? If not let me know which ones you still need!

Thanks for talking about Hashimotos! People who have this dreaded disease are basically left to cure themselves because doctors don't know anything about how to treat it.

About 15 years ago my brother was told by his family doctor that his thyroid antibodies were elevated (in the thousands). He recalls his doctor sort of just brushing it off as some sort of infection that may have flared up. There was no further follow-up. Then, about 5 years ago he met with an endocrinologist and mentioned that experience, as well as the fact that his antibody levels were still in the hundreds. The endocrinologist basically brushed it off as nothing. That's the state-of-the-art of modern medicine today.

You have made the understanding of my Hashimotos so much better. I actually have a doctor wanted me to see endocrinologist, now I will understand if they are checking what I need . Thanks

Hi Dr Childs, what happens to Hashimoto Desease after going through Thyroidectomy? Will it still be there? If yes, what does it attack in the absence of the thyroid glands?

I resorted to getting my blood work through a online website where I can pick and choose

TSH was normal. I'm exhausted, can't lose weight even though I barely eat, and have a painful goiter. It is affecting my voice and it is becoming difficult to eat. I feel like am going to choke. My GP did not order ANY of those other tests. Recently, I had a thyroid ultrasound and biopsy. "Consistent with Hashimoto's Thyroiditis." was what the pathology report said. It's an actual relief to find out something is wrong. I thought I was losing my mind and imagining everything. I have an appt with the ENT doctor later this month. I will ask him to order these tests. Thank you for the advice.

MD only ordered TSH (2 years prior it came back normal with all the same symptoms). ND only ordered TSH, Free T3, Free T4, TPO, CRP & vitamin D. Took 3 years to find one that would even do that. When I was 71lbs with Lyme, bad scoliosis etc super inflamed my CRP then even came back normal, adequate vitamin D. Maybe cortisone being low is why I felt the pain. I felt frustrated when they said I had no inflammation, yet I’m wanting to cry from so much pain. hopefully ESR as an inflammation marker will show something.
So far I haven’t seen truly competent Doc’s. in person. They each know a bit in their niches but getting correct labs and interpreting them is not their strong suit. ND never heard of DUTCH test before. Never spoke or ESR, RT3 & made it seem like TPO was the only Hashimotos marker, & levels of 15 was nothing to worry about, still unsure about that.
I’m happy this info is available for us online. Thank you for all that you do!!

Can low thyroid fu cation and any of these abnormal markers cause sluggish liver, gallbladder, gallstones, and pancrease problems?

Ibhave been tested for all in the list except the 2 markers for inflammation. Anti-TPO is high Vit D is low, all 4 hormone levels are normal. One test that is not on the list is Iron studies. I have very low Ferritin. It is hard to order these tests from GP in Australia.

Always only the TSH. Always in the 0.1-2.0 range with hypo symptoms. Found out I have a partially empty sella and recently anti thyroglobulin ab. Only complained for 30 years and 4 miscarriages! Only found out because the Dr wanted to prove to me there was nothing wrong! I also have a positive ANA, maybe lupus.
