Less than 18 months ago, Stef Burgon and her husband, Simon Hunt, had high-octane jobs in Dubai. They rented a modern first-floor studio flat opposite that gravi­ty-defying beacon of 21st-century engineering, the Burj Khalifa, and could wear T-shirts most days. Now they are the owners of a 16th-century stone castle where the view from their bedroom window is of ancient beech trees and the even older Kilmartin Glen, site of one of the most important concentrations of neolithic and Bronze Age remains in Scotland. What’s more, the mercury rarely nudges above 20C.

So you buy a castle, renovate it and don't actually live in it? I take it that this is a rental business property you visit a few times a year as stated in the video?

I cooked in this Castle as private chef for a family from the US . I travel for my clients all over Scotland and I see many castles and this is one of a kind with many things you can do inside and also in the BBQ area .. having watched this video I now understand why this place is very unique and is worth to be visited! ❤

Now that is a well done modern castle, beautiful and with fitting furnature. Brave to dare get on this project though idk what kind of balance they had but projects like this are usually expensive!

I think they should have put in masonry stoves instead of those inefficient cast iron stoves, that you have to constantly add wood. A medium sized soap stone stove with a pizza oven would have been nice in the great room. With soap stone stove you only have to burn one or two times a day and then the heat radiates from the whole mass of the stove all day.

I remember when we travelled through Germany a lot of ordinary people who live in the castles. There are so many castles. A lot, I think, no longer owed by the original families. They live just like it’s an ordinary home. It was so strange to see modern things for a home but just in a castle
