I cook Indian food without oil. I mix powder spices with water and add it to curry. I dont use salt. I use brown basmati rice. Steam vegetables. No sweets. No frying. Maybe its not traditional Indian food. But thats as real as it gets for me. I lost 32 pounds last year.
I follow Indian vegetarian diet.
I also believe that unless someone does heavy labor, a person does not need 3 meals a day. I eat once, sometimes twice a day, the second meal being very small.

I might get hate for saying this but I think junk food is only part of the problem. The bigger issue imo is that people in the cities are living a more sedentary lifestyle combined with unhealthy eating. Another issue is that a indian vegetarian diet often has too many carbs, and when you are no longer as active this can be bad. Lastly indians are way more likely to get type 2 diabetes than white people due to genetics, we store more visceral fat inside our organs than outside. I see in the comments people commenting about thinness, but in reality that doesn't matter. My friend runs marathons, is pencil thin, and had a heart attack. Why? It's because all the grains he was eating made his trygliceride levels go through the roof. We have got to stop the whole mentality of the US is the one bringing problems to india and start focusing on our selves and recognize there are factors unique to indians that can also be causing the amount of heart attacks and diabetes in India.

in india we have lunch break but in japan it is lunch class, children there grow their own food in school premises and cook healthy. here in india, we need not to expect any kind of revolutionary step from 9 to 5 working class for their kids. all kind of changes need to start from schools to save our future, because we, professional idiots, get brainwashed and lured by money but forget that health is real wealth

why are they blaming western food calling them as junk food?

indian cuisine itself is very very high in carbs and fat - probably as much, if not more, fattening than burgers and pizzas.

Avoid sugary and fried foods and stay healthy, if you can't do exercise

All these developing countries are where America was in the 1950s. And they are going to make the same mistakes.

I still love my mum and dads cooking home made bread etc I still try to keep to that tradition even though I live on my own I still try to live the way I was brought up
People can ban fast food rubbish at school but what about after school when the temptation is all to raw
My Nan was a fantastic cook as well

Indian food _ as my experience with it is not unhealthy . Especially stews and desserts. Using too much carb ingredients and sugar. I uúually take reference from indian recipes, they're quite good

Seriously sugar is like a sniper in the battle to losing weight people normally say oh it's low fat so it's must be good but they don't see how much sugar that product contains . Stay away from sugar especially those from fizze drinks lollies chocolates and ice cream etc these turn to fat so quickly if u don't burn it off

3:30 hella fine. Health insurance companies should lower their rates when their customers reach their ideal weight and are healthy & increase their rates if healthy people start becoming obese. Money talks, nothing motivates people like saving money on health insurance.

stop blaming the west...there is already plenty of traditional indian food (butter, oil, dairy) that contributes to your health problems. Indians always liked these foods and they were traditional cuisine...they are just more easily available now.

Fruits and vegetable in their raw form are actually super fast foods though they are healthy than cooked food.

The conventional Indian food is pretty unhealthy too. They eat a lot of carbs and fats and not nearly enough protein. That is why you see people are either skinny fat or obese.

Omg, all these women who talk about healthy food, they are obese themselves!

What about all the poor starving people in the slums? If there’s so much give some to the poor with food clinics food banks. It’s either fat or starve in India.

To make food fast and tasty and maximize profits cook everything in puddles of oil with heaps of spices.

This is going to get much worse until the real obesogenic foods are correctly identified. Hint: it is not meat and saturated fat.
