Was able to swap out the alternator on my 1997 4Runner 2WD 2.7L, didn't have to lift the engine up, thankfully, appreciate the video!

Thanks Brian, my daughter and I replaced her alternator per your instructions and we were successful. I would have preferred a lift vs. the ground!

For the DIY guys, when you get to 1:45 on this vid, stop! If your alternator will break loose of the swivel with reasonable force from above, just loosen the one bolt that connects the alternator mounting alarm to the engine and drop it down. Alternator will come right out the top.

I replaced my alternator twice and both times I took it out the front but had to take off the radiator hose which was a mess, I will do it like this in the future ( prefer not to do it again lol). thanks for the video. Now to do my belts ( which should've been done at the same time).

I never had to remove the bracket and I was able to pull the old alternator out of the top and put the new one in same way. Never did any work from the bottom or removal of gravel shield

How exactly does the electrical plug at the back of the alternator come off. I have not been able to get mine to come off. I dont want to break the plug. I've tried rocking it back and forth a bit. Won't budge.

Could get the old alternator out the bottom but the new one went through the top. All I did was remove the battery and disconnected just the air hoses. Didn’t even bother to make a mess and pull the radiator hose. Didn’t have to
