Type 1 Diabetes & Me

I was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes in my late 30s. It's diabetes awareness month (and World Diabetes Day is November 14!), so I wanted to share what diabetes is and how this change has been affecting my life. (Plus it happened to be time to change my dexcom sensor, so that's at the end of the video as well!)

This won't be a diabetes-focused channel, but feel free to subscribe if you want to see someone with T1D just living their life.

My 20 year old has had T1D since she was 14. It's rough. I love how Dexcom sends messages, too. Now I am about to start graduate school while she's approaching her senior year in college. 🤦🏾‍♀️ Thank you for talking about all of this! 🥰

I’m 37. Was diagnosed at 6 when it was called juvenile diabetes. Yesterday had an endocrinology appt and my a1c is 5.2. Last three a1c’s are 5.2, 5.3 and 4.8. It’s a battle. I’ve had some bad days, scary low blood sugar days, but overall it’s manageable with the right equipment. And family and friends being there. Keep up the great work. Love the video!!!

as a person interested in HCI and has had close relationships with type 1 diabetics their entire life - it’s really cool to see how things have advanced! my (non-bio) aunt was diagnosed at 30, 30 years ago. she does everything very manually still, so seeing how far the tech has come is very cool!

i really appreciate the variety of videos you’ve made :)

You are such an inspiration. Thank you for sharing your story. As a graduate student, and since I was an undergrad, I've lived with bipolar I disorder. It's encouraging to know academics like you are living with chronic illness so well.
