He Wins! A Cinderella Story Come True!

Day 5 of Hot Rod Drag Week - the last day! A day that turns into an incredible Cinderella story! We start out the day immediately helping weld on two different Novas, each with broken shock mounts, and then Jeff Butland, owner of a cool black '71 Vega, approaches us with a desperate plea for help. He's currently 3rd in the Unlimited class - a class he's only in due to a minor technicality - but he dropped his car on his jack and punctured his oil pan badly and needs us to weld it back up so he can make a pass and secure a 3rd place podium position! We get right to work. Jeff makes his pass, but waits until the end of the day during "all run" so that he can run side by side with us! Jeff goes on to WIN third place, and we come away proud to have been a part of his victory.

Enjoyed watching your videos. It was great to see your son so willing to share his welding abilities with the other participants. Had an issue with a car I was crewing on at a road race. We sprung fuel leak in the staging area after the five minute warning. Luckily one of the crew guys from the car next to us had the correct size plug for the fuel regulator test port. We were ready at the one minute warning when crew members have to leave the staging area. That's what I like about the racing community as a whole.

I discovered your channel about 3 or 4 weeks ago and have been watching because I had a 78 Monza 2+2 and loved it until I hurt my back and had to get something that didn't sit so low to the ground. I have been powering through the videos from the beginning and love how Nate has taken an interest in something you also love. I used to pull a snowmobile trailer with my V6 Monza and never had any problems with it. One suggestion I would offer would be that you convert the trailer to a larger wheel/tire to lessen the rolling resistance and would also be safer since the weight of the trailer has increased. You also might want to look into using an inverter generator to lighten the load and gain in space on the trailer.

Great job on all the rest. Might want to look into a fingertip control, can be easier than a pedal in some cases. LOVE that Vega. I had a 72 GT that got a bit of work on it. When I finally sold it off it was a tube chassis with glass nose and a 427 shoehorned in. Didn't buck that bad though... LOL
