Fun fact most of those tunnels have been sealed off due to deadly gases and chemicals. although the ones with lights and pipe are for maintenance. Just don’t go down 100-200 feet deeper you may die.

I am a civil engineer living and working in the Chicago land area. You need to stay out of those tunnels. Some of them are as deep as 300 feet below the street and it is possible to get lost or trapped down there. Also there are people down there that you DO NOT want to meet. And then there is the mutant animals. Stay out of the tunnels.

Well it’s not abandoned as the main purpose of those tunnels is to make the pipes accessible for repairs if necessary.

these tunnels were 40ft below the street level and at one time had a small gauge railway running thru them. A book called 40ft below was written about the chicago tunnels.

They're maintaince tunnels.
They house electrical wires and pipes.
Lots of big city's have them.

when they are abandoned it's because they aren't in use anymore and there's no point in getting rid of them because they're replaced with something more modern it'd just be a waste of money

These tunnels are not abandoned. The blue moon bottle and coke cans are newer style designs. And the fact that the utilities are still running down there suggests these maintenance tunnel's are still in use.

I'm from Chicago. I worked on Division St. The bar was in the basement. After we closed, we could travel underneath all the way 2 the corner. There were 4 bars in a row & they all connected. It was wild. I was amazed at how far these tunnels went 4. 😂
