Here’s a trick Gareth seems to be missing. Even tried and tested players can be out of form. So pick players based on form, they generally do better for a team than a player out of form. Just a thought. And I’m available in case the FA don’t want another yes man

Bringing on Sterling against France after he'd been back to England after his house had been robbed was the moment I went from not being a massive fan of Southgate to hating him. Even if Sterling was a world class winger I'd have had questions given the circumstances, but Sterling had played that season as a bottom half PL winger/striker, if that, I know a lot of people lost their trust in Southgate earlier but that was the moment, beyond doubt, I knew he was deluded and clueless

Choosing Phillips is understandable. It will be difficult to defend Southgate if he starts Maguire at the Euros with Ben White, Levi Colwill, Fikayo Tomori, and Lewis Dunk performing streets ahead of him for a number of years now.

Gareth Southgate makes out that Kalvin Phillips and Raheem sterling can perform when they’ve literally not been doing that last season for their clubs. Players like Marcus rashford, James Maddison, fikayo tomori, Marc guehi, Ivan Toney and I would actually put nick pope and Aaron ramsdale there have been sensational and deserve to play for England but the reason they don’t is because Southgate has favourite and is stubborn to make switches and give others an opportunity.

He is a bloody politician pretending to be a football manager. He talks absolute nonsense but believes his own hype, he keep going on about big games, the right experience, playing at the level we need, game time, blah blah! Southgate is talking out of his backside. Historically, Sterling and Maguire have both performed well for England, yet Southgate dropped the former citing lack of form but continues to select the latter when he isn't even playing regularly enough to be regarded 'match fit'. Additionally, he has repeatedly ignored the likes of Tomori who's played regularly, whilst winning a domestic league title and reached the Champions League semi-final. Long story short, selection for England's national team is a popularity contest. Until players are selected on the basis of the strength of their performances, regularity of appearances and their level of competitive, England's national team will never thrive!
