Definitively one of the must have seen for any internet user, whatever the age after the age of nightmare fears.
Good to allow people to get bits of vocabulary or in order to present them security of computer 101.

I really appreciate the community comments feature on VirusTotal. Very helpful for flies that Microsoft false-positive flags.

I've used this service for free and had no idea VirusTotal has access to any files uploaded. I've used it to scan some of my programs I write but it's not a big deal, though I wish they would make this access more prominent to casual users. Thanks ThioJoe, I learned something new.

I first learned about it from John Hammond. He's a YouTuber and computer security researcher (or something like that, I forget what profession exactly he calls himself). One of my favorite series of his is malware analysis, where he de-obfuscates and reverse engineers a piece of malware to figure out what it does without actually running it. Often times he'll run it through Virus Total at the end to confirm and/or out of curiosity. All the while being entertaining and informative.

Now if only there was a tool to scan the entire PC with VirusTotal instead of individual files. Would be so much better than any other single AV software.

Some people seem to be thinking this is being suggested as a replacement for local AV. That is not he idea.
You are supposed to use this for secondary opinion and deeper info than your local AV shows.
I use the VT and OPSWAT extensions so my downloads automatically get multiple scans and sandbox options.
Seeing the behaviour and where the software contacts is most useful when judging new samples.

I have seen several youtubers use virus total before and was wondering if it could be added to the context menu to make it much easier to use so thanks for this.

I subscribed to you when you were making random pranks and I love how useful and unique your content is and I miss those pranks and all but this definitely better and amazing

All good information, as a Malware Analyst I use VirusTotal hundreds of times daily. Another pro tip: Even if it says there are very few positive detections on a file, it's still a good idea to run the scan again by clicking the "Refresh" button at the top right of the Detection results page. I've seen files that were scanned in the last 12 hours that say 1/70 results, after refreshing it will show 40+/70.

VirusTotal is fantastic, and for my advanced cyber security nerds out there, Intezer Analyze is amazing as well

Could you do a video on using Sandboxie Plus? Would be very helpful, esp. to avoid malware.

I love the VirusTotal right-click context menu shortcut for Windows. I use it all the time when downloading sketchy mods.

I had heard of VirusTotal when a customer mentioned our software is getting flagged as malware on one scanner, now I know a bit more about how to read it. Thanks

i thought virustotal was an unkown third party so never really trusted it. But it's good to know that is owned by a known company that can be kind of trusted. Good.

Process Explorer includes built in VirusTotal support so you can check running processes, services, and DLLs.

You can also run Windows in a VM to really make sure if it's not a virus, so if it is a virus, it's only contained in the VM
