5 Tips for NoteTaking in University

I'm putting together my First Year lecture notes and drawings in a PDF to share soon (for free), hopefully they'll be up in the next few weeks!

Re notetaking:
From sitting in every lecture to watching them pre-recorded in bed (or sometimes not at all), I've tried many methods of attendance, and note-taking. Here's my main advice and tips as a university medical student on taking notes during lectures. And for making the most out of them.
If I had to recommend one, it would be the last one!
I really hope you find it useful and I'm always keen on learning new methods if you have some to share xx

Completely agree about finding the balance. When I was at med school I remember writing extensive lecture notes in the first few years and literally never reading them again. When I switched to flashcards/active recall I personally found things much easier. Great video Elizabeth!

The evolution of a med student-
Day one: writing everything word for word including the professor's address hobbies and kid's names
Day 234392: being confused crying and being unable to take any notes 'cause they have no idea what's happening XD

As always you deliver!
The content and the way you present your views, show that you are born to do what you do.
Keep doing it forever young lady!
I can not wait to see what you will do next.
Love you!

#1 love your background music, soft piano
#2 my lecturer teaches for straight 2hours until I won't have time to ask any questions.
#3 yes, I want more videos on how you study :)

Completely agree with the fact that what lecturers emphasise and how they summarise/ link things is really important. I'm definitely guilty of taking too many notes - need to work on this haha :)

Last semester (still ongoing in terms of exam season) I took notes of absolutely everything I could, and then didn't take notes at all because I was burnt out. This semester I'm only focusing on making questions and answers from what the lecturer says (making these questions during the class), and then studying them and putting all the questions together at the end of the week to make a sort of weekly review of the material. I'm not sure if this will work well or not so if anyone has some advice I'd love to hear it!
Notetaking series is a big yes from me btw :)

To summarize and establish connections between subjects I would recommend you to explore using mind maps, sketchnotes and outlines.

Interesting, thanks 😉 Did chuckle at the proposal to do a series including using your iPad when I just watched your earlier video about how you stopped using your iPad for anything other than art 😁

Great content Elizabeth! Keep up the good work. Just wondering if you could make a video on how to take notes from books so as to be able to summarise and revise the important stuff. I'm self studying for an entrance exam. So that would be of great help. Cheers!

Super Content. Completely agree with you. There are some add ons which converts notion or obsidian notes into anki cards. It consolidates information even better. And for us medical students observing patients really connects the dots. I remember a patient during my early days in wards who had carcinoma of head of pancreas and this really yellow eyes and he was itching all over his body. That explained obstructive jaundice for me

If I could do med school all over again I wouldn't waste my time writing down everything the lecturer said. I would always try to get absolutely everything written down. How silly! Instead, I think I would use the voice recorder on my Pixel 4 which has an awesome feature of creating an accompanying transcription. I'd then allow myself to relax and listen more intently to the lecturer knowing that I have both the audio and script I can refer to on my own time. This may not work for everyone as I know some sometimes schools have rules against recordings but it was totally fair game at mine.
