MM tragedy aside, I like this scene because it shows how Herb had evolved enough to where he knew that team chemistry could not be altered at that point. Jack O was the soul of that team, sending him home would've been like taking away the heart of the Team for the Olympic run. I think he also knew how tough Jack was and even if he was marginally ready to play that he would get through any pain and leave it out on the ice no matter what.

I'm the GM of an ice rink in the Chicagoland area. OC coached one of the youth hockey teams at my rink years ago he's a great guy.

When my brother went on to college hockey, he pretty much became Jack O’Callahan. He has blonde hair, played defense, wore 17, and wrecked his knee when he got hit from behind in a game.
