The mailman and Gumball actually both represent autism quite accurately. The mailman reflects one spectrum of autism of dealing with a stressful social situation and Gumball represents another spectrum of autism with the more obsessive, in-your-face, approach to a stressful social situation.

Autism is a spectrum disorder which means people who have autism don't manifest it the same way.
