Your show is way better than anything on old-fashioned television! No stupid, loud background music or annoying fake suspenseful breaks! Keep up the great work! Cheers, from Detroit!

Anton. I've always been a Betelgeuse fan. When my son as around 10 years old, we used to sit in our backyard, in New Jersey, and view Betelgeuse. He's now 58 years old and a Grandfather. :) I've always been interested in the Cosmos - you have been a source to help me in this endeavor. Many thanks, my friend.

Even Betelgeuse going supernova was cancelled due to the pandemic of covid-19...

Is noone gonna talk about how great the title for that research paper is?
''Standing on the soulders of giants'' for a paper about the red giant Betelgeuse which forms the shoulder of Orion, while they're also analysing old data. Simply amazing. None of the papers I've read had that fancy titles.

There are two explanations for the name, both from Arabic:
1. It comes from Yad Al-Jawzaa' يد الجوزاء (The Hand of the Mighty Hunter) which is very close in shape of Arabic letters to ابط الجوزاء that the European translators mistook it to Betelgeuse.
2. The second explanation that makes more sense to me as a professional Arab translator, that it comes from Ibtt el-Jawzaa' ابط الجوزاء (The Armpit of the Mighty Hunter) and it transliterates closely into Betelgeuse in English.
I'm a big fan of your amazing content and I have a Space science channel called AstroGate بوابة الفضاء, I am looking forward to collaborating with you soon.

Kudos to Anton. His approach to science/astronomy/etc. is based on verified facts (to the best of our knowledge) and when he is not sure about certain allegations then he makes it known that allegations alone may have nothing in common with verified proof. This in turn provides him with solid credibility versus those "whackos" or "glory seekers" or deliberate manipulators of the actual truth who make up ridiculous stories from a mere sliver of information in order to find less than brilliant followers and with the help of "likes" they are able to be funded by YouTube or similar media outlets.

I already liked Betelgeuse before it was cool!

Imagine how many stars we are wrong about.

"The show has been cancelled." Damn I was SO LOOKING forward to watching that supernova in the next 10, 000 years...

Anton the oldest provable human concept is the constellation Taurus. There’s a 11, 000 year old French cave painting of the Pleiades with a bull painted underneath with the Hyades and Caster and Pollux to the left. The Pleiades are painted so accurately that they can date the painting.

A few weeks from now...
"Hey guys Betelgeuse looks even closer, we may have to go back over these calculations"
A few more weeks...
"Uh oh"

Betelgeuse ends up smaller... well, he did have his head shrunk in the movie. :)

It always amazes me how much information we're able to get from something as simple as a distant star dimming for a little bit.

"I'm not fat. you're just miscalculating my distance!!!"

I love the way star catalogues give distances, diameters and brightness to several decimal places. Then it turns out they have no idea.

Actually crazy just how viable the dip was on a clear night sky even from earth and looking at with the naked eye.

Question from someone who don't know much about astrophysics: If we are having corrections in the magnitude of 25% of the size of the star (thus impacting the calculated distance to it), why are we so certain that stuff which are further away are actually at that distance and keep betting on dark matter and dark energy to correct our measurements?

Is this case in particular because the brightness of the star makes it hard to identify the boundaries between its horizon and corona?
