How to ABA discusses reinforcement in ABA including positive vs negative punishment.

In today’s video, we go over the difference between negative reinforcement and punishment as well as give examples of positive punishment and negative punishment. Negative reinforcement vs punishment can be confusing terms in ABA. Do you know the difference?

Reinforcement, even when it’s negative, will always increase behavior. In contrast, punishment always decreases behavior. In positive punishment, you add an undesirable stimulus to decrease a behavior. In negative punishment, you remove a good stimulus to decrease a behavior.

Yassss thank you! As psychology takes a larger focus in the social consciousness, the error and pipeline of misinterpretation needs content just like this to also communicate the accepted professional concepts. Y'all rock

This is fantastic. I am special education teacher and I work with BCBAs in a day treatment setting for students age 7 to 17. What are your thoughts of asking a student to sign a behavior contract? It worked for one student (much older, different diagnosis) and completely backfired for another. The ABC was much different as well.
