My understanding re the Thunderbolt livery was that they went for a deliberately bold colour scheme to highlight the fact that the film was in colour. The colours can be quite muted compared to modern films, so they wanted something that would really show up on camera.

FUN FACT: Mr Valentine was inspired by a real guy, who was taken to see the film, and was actually offended by the fact that it was in colour. So he never got to see Stanley Holloway's portrayal of him.

I think the reason they go with strong reds is because the film and in particular the film stills were typical of Kodak Technicolor film of the time with a very high red saturation. Watching the film today on video formats, this saturation is toned down in the analogue to digital translation, so we don't see it as the Cinema audiences of the time would have seen it.

I’m new to the hobby and I really appreciate your channel. As a novice, you’ve given me so many tips and saved me a fortune. Keep up the good work.

I've just ordered the Accurscale Siphon G and the BR newspaper one, from them this evening.

Meanwhile, here in the US, ScaleTrains bought up ExactRail and all of their stuff, which now puts them on significantly bigger footing when it comes to rolling stock. ExactRail weren't locomotive makers, however, so ScaleTrains isn't gonna be churning out new power by the boatload, here. However, this _does_ mean that ex-ExactRail stuff is gonna be in a lot more brick-and-mortar shops, increasing availability and sales once production fully resumes.

I now have an LNER J83 model steamy in scrapyard condition. I've scrubbed off some of the heavy rust, and she's ready to work in Motobug Mines. I've named her Azuma after one of my subscribers.

It's just the start of winter here in New Zealand, Sam. The right time to be inside playing with the model railway.

That 1980’s Lion looks by far the best version. Only other thing in the news I can think of is the Dapol Black Label Inspection Saloon which is exclusive to Rails of Sheffield which was announced recently

Hi Sam
Another very useful roundup, thanks. This month’s was a little short compared to some so…
1) Talking of Hornby: another YouTuber (Euvirail) has noted it’s been over 2 months since the last HM7000 TTX new sound profile was released. To this, Jenny Kirk has commented the Android version of the App should be ready by the end of the month and the Class 55 Deltic profile is imminent;
2) Heljan’s TCV Newton Chambers car transporter vehicles are also imminent. £194.65 for a pack of 3 from Hattons. Today (17/6/23) though, Bachmann have announced their version under the EFE brand: £50.95 per wagon from Rails of Sheffield. That’s quite some price difference!

Interesting to see ' Kholer-gate ' continuing. . . . I had a feeling it may have been a jump/push or push/jump....

I see the Rapido Lion has what looks like an NEM coupling on the tender - much better than the silly three-link couplings on Hornby's L & M locos and stock. Small NEM couplings would at least make it easier to make up and shunt trains and stock, and to operate them in the usual way.

Great video here Sam, some really good articles here, some great news for me is the rerelease of the KR models Fell which I have pre ordered and that is due for release next month and another great piece of news is the opening of the order book for the revolution trains class 180 which I have also pre ordered in the grand central livery.

I received my Dapol Rails Exclusive of the SECR Maunsell D1 class today. It’s a lovely model that ran well straight out of the box.
