You’re a PM. Now what? 30-60-90 day plan for product managers

The onboarding phase has an outsized effect on your overall success in a company. It's the time you create your first impression, lay foundational relationships, and ask questions that may not be possible at any other time. During these first 30-60-90 days, you lay the groundwork for the rest of your time on the team. While it's important to jump in and deliver value quickly, onboarding is the time to set things up for the long term.

In contrast to other roles, PMs:
(1) Have abstract role descriptions that vary hugely by team. So - it's important to learn what the role will look like on this specific team.
(2) Are highly dependent on relationships to achieve nearly all of their work. Onboarding is the time to prioritize building a good impression and strong bonds with your team.
(3) Prioritize long-term value. PMs are not the ones who keep a product running every day. Instead, they need to have the knowledge and context to keep the product heading in the right direction over the course of months and years.
