Sciatica is a medical condition characterized by pain going down the leg from the lower back. This pain may go down the back, outside, or front of the leg.Onset is often sudden following activities like heavy lifting, though gradual onset may also occur. The pain is often described as shooting.Typically, symptoms are only on one side of the body. Certain causes, however, may result in pain on both sides. Lower back pain is sometimes present.Weakness or numbness may occur in various parts of the affected leg and foot.

About 90% of sciatica is due to a spinal disc herniation pressing on one of the lumbar or sacral nerve roots.Spondylolisthesis, spinal stenosis, piriformis syndrome, pelvic tumors, and pregnancy are other possible causes of sciatica. The straight-leg-raising test is often helpful in diagnosis. The test is positive if, when the leg is raised while a person is lying on their back, pain shoots below the knee.In most cases medical imaging is not needed. However, imaging may be obtained if bowel or bladder function is affected, there is significant loss of feeling or weakness, symptoms are long standing, or there is a concern for tumor or infection.Conditions that may present similarly are diseases of the hip and early herpes zoster (prior to rash formation).

Praying for all of us who are going through so much pain. That one day, we will be diagnosed correctly and be healed with an effective cure. I pray all these in Jesus Name!!!

My dad was diagnosed with sciatica yesterday, the pain started a week ago. He wasn’t able to move his leg anymore pain would go down from lower back to buttock down to the leg. Today we had a friend of his come visit. He did some techniques where he put lot of pressure on his lower back and left his leg up and down then stepped on his back put all his weight on my dads back and then massaged his back now my dad feels lot better.

Have had this pretty much my entire life. First microdiscectomy surgery at 13. Dealt with the pain until last October at 29, where I had a second microdiscectomy. Neurosurgeon said I’ll probably have to get another surgery in the future which would most likely be a spinal fusion. Was never in rigorous sports, not sedentary; no one really knows why this happened. Have degenerative discs and spinal stenosis but no one’s ever told me I have arthritis in the spine or anything.

I have this exact symptom that I've developed over the last couple of years of working from home... kneeling chair didn't help. I'm gonna see a doc soon but I may want to get a standing desk...

I've had this for almost a month now. It's the worst when sitting, literally unbearable pain within minutes. Once during cinema I had to stand up in the middle of the movie and walk out because I couldn't bare the pain. It's roughly a 8/10 on pain scale (not suicidal pain, but unbearable). I was taking Ibuprofen which doesn't seem to help at all with this pain. I went to the doctor twice and was shown exercises and stretching, which are very hard to do because I can't stretch my leg enough. Also doesn't seem to help much. After sitting the next worst pain is sleeping, with constant lower leg/leg pain. Other than light walking, or standing around, the pain is 24/7, the pain is the last thing you feel when falling asleep, and the first thing you feel when waking up (from it). Any and all physical activities are pretty much crippled. Cannot put socks or shoes on, cannot bend over, cannot sit down, can't do anything. Forget about sex or any other social activity. My doctor said it'll go away on it's own and by god I hope it's true because I cannot endure this much longer.

I had sepsis and it caused an abscess to grow on my sciatic nerve. Unimaginable pain. Was bed-stricken in hospital for weeks and had to relearn to walk. Still have pain 8 months later.

I play soccer and suffered a hard knock like feeling in my calf muscle while running that forced me to stop playing for a while, It’s been about 3 months since that happened I’ve gone back to play a couple times but cannot last more than 20 minutes without feeling a pain around my Achilles’ tendon that hurts when I stretch my leg out to walk with a nasty pinch like feeling concentrated a bit above my Botox almost on the waist line that cause lower body weakness when I turn or try to do any physical activities I stop playing a return when I don’t feel the pain but leave with the same pain always might this be sciatic pain?

Anytime I do gardening and engage in pulling/twisting etc, I end up with a pain that prevents me from standing up straight. I end up walking with my butt sticking out and a pain going down my left leg. It usually goes away in 4 days. Is this sciatica, neurogenic claudication or something else?
