The Moment I Realized NieR Automata Is A Masterpiece

Keiichi Okabe is a legendary composer who’s created an iconic soundtrack for what’s definitively one of the greatest games ever made. The song perfectly incapsulates the abandoned, post apocalyptic feeling of City Ruins where nature is reclaiming the landscape. NieR is truly something special.

A game so powerful it made me drop college to pursue game design.
And here I am 5 years later working in this industry as a game designer.

Thank you NieR:Automata for showing me that games aren't just "games".

What i really liked is how steadily and fast she constantly ran. No stamina bar at all. This never lets you forget that she is a machine.

This song, this goddamn song, it really fits the theme of "City Ruins", it's so beautiful yet melancholic, it nails the vibe of loneliness. Everytime I hear it I think "oh damn, humans will be gone one day, but our structures will remain, majestic reminders of civilization and history, all of the art, every emotion of love and hate, alliances and conflicts, the good times and the struggles, but no one left to remember them" oh man, no game makes me think of philosophy the way Nier does. When I heard this song I knew I was in for journey.

For me it was the boss in the amusement park, that entire fight was insane and it still gives me chills, mostly because of the incredible music.

Many moments like this throughout the game. The soundtrack is phenomenal.

The moment I realized Nier was a masterpiece was when I got my first ever Nier trophy by looking up 2B’s skirt 10 times.

I simply can't imagine NieR: Automata without Keiichi Okabe's soundtrack.

NierA is not about visuals, music, characters or plot. It the experience. Everything listed above goes past your senses straight into your heart. It's like Love.

Automata's atmosphere was haunting. I had constant shivers during my playthrough of the game. It really got me to feel like I was trapped in a truly futile cycle, and I enjoyed every moment of it.

The City Ruins are a living, breathing character in Nier Automata.

For me, as soon as the title screen shows up, with the music playing, I automatically knew it was going to be a masterpiece and one of my all-time favorite games.

For me, the first moment where I knew this game was going to hit different was after completing the blacksmiths quest. His introspection to whether his work was just causing everyone to kill each other faster really hit me, and it just kept getting deeper from there on.

Yeah, walking out of the resistance camp to go to the desert for the first time, and this dynamic music picks up... Aaaaand you're gone. You're in love.

I think a lot of people like this song, but I don’t usually hear anyone say it’s their favorite. But this version of City Ruins, to me, might be my favorite song of all time. The moments it plays are always when the story has picked up some steam, and to hear a more dynamic version of the song reflect those parts of the story as you traverse the environments got my mind into an introspective but dynamic moment of reflection. It really hit for me. What a game.
