It took a lot of research to figure out on my own what you have put together so well in a few minutes. Will link to this video when trying to help others with their build. Please make it into a series which explains SLC, dram. Maybe after, more series explaining other components?

M.2 sata is plenty for most people

Gen4 for PS5 upgrades or if you actually have pro level workload where you move 20GB+ on a daily basis

Never get a drive without a dram cache

Buy from OEM only (Western Digital, Samsung, Micron/Crucial, Seagate and toshiba/kioxia

Everyone else is just rebranding those drives and probably lying about specs(swapping components after reviews come out)

And Optane for the special snowflakes who like paying stupid money for only a little storage

Avoid QLC NAND if you can

And that’s everything you need to know basically

It's pretty great how competitive gen3 nvme m.2 sticks have got...

This did not age well with the news about the p2 Drives now being QLC.

I still wouldn't suggest anything other than 2.5" drives for the vast majority of users at this stage, as there still is almost nothing yet to take advantage of those blistering M.2 speeds. Hopefully we'll get a good reason soon when DirectStorage is finally implemented into Windows in the next few months. Here's a question, why is it when I transfer files from my own M.2 to a USB 3.2 HDD, the first 10gb of the transfer goes at a rate of 2 gb/s, and then drops right down to 65 mb/s? Would be nice to have some sort of way to control this behaviour to fine-tune it, and get some explanations for what the endurance times are like when transferring files from an M.2 drive to other disk types.

The Samsung 980 (Non-Pro) is PCIe Gen 3.

Well if you are running a system that has ZFS then it is very important to get a drive with sustained throughput. For instance a Samsung SSD 870 will bog down after the first few hundred MBs so badly you'll think there is something wrong with your system. For ZFS you need real drives like the Samsung SSD 860. Or the Kingston stuff.

Missing basic info:
M.2 socket can only be SATA or pcie (NVMe). Some newer ones can take either.
All M.2 SATA are B+M.
