"Once you start blaming yourself for deaths that aren't your fault, there's no going back."

Song fact: This song was written about how The Fray's singer tried talking one of the youths he was counseling out of using heroin (or cocaine, I don't remember), and failing.

I like these live recordings way better than the green screen lip-sync. These have genuine energy instead of dead eyes staring into my soul.

the original version is when you feel sad and just want sit down and cry.
this version is when you feel angry and just want to shout and scream
both version let you feel what needs to be felt to heal

All jokes aside, this cover is absolutely beautiful. Nice job, Jonathan.

This came out only a few days after a close friend of mine died of suicide. I've lost friends before. This wasn't the first. I have lost a friend to a meth addiction. I have lost a friend to cancer. I have lost a friend to the hands of a murderer. I have lost a friend to the hands of a drunk driver. I have lost a friend to being in the Army and going to Iraq.

None of those deaths prepared me for losing a friend to suicide. I am still shaken to the core over her. The fact her life got to a point where she felt there was no way to rectify the wrongs that were done to her, where she felt ending her own life was the only way to escape the pain.

She was a good person. Beyond good. She was one of my best friends. She was there for me when I was struggling. I met her while I was homeless and she helped me get food and took me driving to get out of the heat.

She didn't deserve to be treated the way she was. People hurt her badly. But she was, and she was traumatized because of it, and now she's gone.

The greatest prank for April Fool's is to not give people what they're expecting: a prank...

Step one, you say we need to talk
He walks, you say sit down, it's just a talk
He smiles politely back at you
You stare politely right on through
Some sort of window to your right
As he goes left, and you stay right
Between the lines of fear and blame
You begin to wonder why you came

Where did I go wrong?
I lost a friend
Somewhere along in the bitterness
And I would have stayed up with you all night
Had I known how to save a life

Let him know that you know best
Cause after all, you do know best
Try to slip past his defense
Without granting innocence
Lay down a list of what is wrong
The things you've told him all along
And pray to God he hears you
And I pray to God he hears you

Where did I go wrong?
I lost a friend
Somewhere along in the bitterness
And I would have stayed up with you all night
Had I known how to save a life

As he begins to raise his voice
You lower yours and grant him one last choice
Drive until you lose the road
Or break with the ones you've followed
He will do one of two things
He will admit to everything
Or he'll say he's just not the same
And you'll begin to wonder why you came

Where did I go wrong?
I lost a friend
Somewhere along in the bitterness
And I would have stayed up with you all night
Had I known how to save a life

Where did I go wrong?
I lost a friend
Somewhere along in the bitterness
And I would have stayed up with you all night
Had I known how to save a life

How to save a life

Where did I go wrong?
I lost a friend
Somewhere along in the bitterness
And I would have stayed up with you all night
Had I known how to save a life

Where did I go wrong?
I lost a friend
Somewhere along in the bitterness
And I would have stayed up with you all night
Had I known how to save a life

This man would make Enter Sandman a religious experience.

I... totally expected an April Fool's joke. Half of me is still looking for it. I can't tell if I just missed it or if this is just a straight up regular video.

I'm so glad this cover wasn't forgotten and lost. This is insanely good. Hell, everything you do is.

Yo this isn’t even music at this point... it’s pure magic how you take a song from the fray and make it 100x better than it already was. Keep it up man your doing great

I was never crazy about this song because I didn't feel like The Fray's version matched the lyrics. This works because it adds that raw edge that you do so well. Hat's off and thank you.

I can't express how much of your content, especially some of the originals like walked a mile, have meant to me this past year or so. I've been going through a rough time and I am very grateful to have music I can turn to that feels right. thank you.

As an idea, you could cover "The vengeful one" from Disturbed, It'd be amazing!

This song was playing on the radio when I was on the bus to basic training. I always think of that when I hear it.

Every time I listen to a cover from Johnathan Young, it gives me chills. He puts such a spectacular twist on classic songs in a way that it pays an honorable tribute to the original while still having his own unique flair and style shine through. I’ll never get tired of this!

I may be super late on finding your music but I swear to God I sent your song to my mom and said "Mom I think I stumbled across the voice of one of Heaven's angels." ❤ It's beautiful
