Elite Dangerous - New Discovery Found - The Story Of A Generation

A new generation ship named the Golconda has been discovered. Unlike previous ships, this one contains a living population. The ship contains audio logs, detailing the current events onboard. Generation Ships have a long history with Elite, but this is the first discovered with a living population.

Storytelling of ED is like listening to your grandma reading you a story book, 1 page per year...you´ll wonder if she will make it to the end of the story ever.
And if that ship has living humans inside, why can you only "communicate" with them by scanning data logs???

And then because of new technology being invented back home somebody catches up with you in less then a day.

I edited Drew Wagar's novel Premonition. Shortly before ED stopped published ED books, I had written my own and had Drew's publisher on board for publishing it. The plot's climax centred around a lost colony ship whose crew was split as to whether they wanted to make contact with the rest of the universe or keep themselves isolated. Not trying to suggest they got the idea from me or anything (I'm hardly the first. I think we've been waiting for just such an occurrence to happen ever since 1984!). I'm just happy it made its way into the game at last :D

I know this is a game but, just fucking imagine being on board that generation ship.
You've lived there for your entire life, something goes wrong, on a limb, someone sends out a distress signal.
There could be no-one out there, this could very well be the last piece of humanity.
Then, the community you left behind and have only heard from in centuries-old stories comes to your aid.

Could you imagine being out there for thousands of years, and you're first contact is human beings out sightseeing???

If I were FDEV, I would secretly enlist a player volunteer to actually respond to player hails in real time and freak people out.

Imagine being member of a ship crew living on that vessel for many generations for the sole reason to explore unknown space and being a pioneer for all you know. But one day there pops another vessel right next to you out of nowhere and making contact. The pilot is telling you that the habitated space is just a few jumps away wich takes only minutes to travel with technoligy that is around for at least a few hundret years, but nobody had the idea to send a ship for your grand grandparents and inform them about this nor bring them back... I would be the most angry crew member in the galaxy.

"new discovery found", you mean that FDev just dropped it into the game. It wasn't there before. This is why their inorganic storytelling is so silly, next you'll need to go buy <X> thing and bring it to <Y> location to "save" the ship and it will become yet another non-interacting statue in the galaxy.

I bought the first version of ED when it came out. I refused to pay for the expansion that would have let me do something basic, like land on planets or something like that. It looks like I dodged a bullet there, as it has been like 5 years and THIS is where this game is at?!?

Gameplay around this will be the same as with everything in the game, bring any given amount of item A to the ship, probably food, water, medicine, either that or take passengers from the ship to a nearby station, and compete with others to see whose better at truck simulator space edition.

With all the drama lately with the Fdevs set aside...this is an awesome game. The detail on that Generation Ship looks great..and the fact that we can go and hunt for the ship is even better. Hopefully one day we will actually be able to board these ships. Thx for sharing
