We’ve all got to be very careful with Forums. YES these people have legitimate concerns but people who’ve experienced issues will make a loud noise. We expect very little to go wrong with premium and mid range modern cars. So if something does go wrong, we’re dissatisfied/ angry. The vast majority of people probably don’t have issues and they don’t contribute to forums saying how happy they are. So we’re only getting one side of the story.
My 2018 D5 Inscription with air suspension would be in the top 3 cars I’ve ever owned and NOTHING has gone wrong with it since new. 80, 000 km and I’m very happy. I considered. BMW X3 and MB GLC. So glad I bought the Volvo.

Bought a new Inscription almost 3 years ago has 40k on it, so far all good and still a really enjoyable drive.

I bought a brand new XC40 in October last year. Can't speak to long-term reliability or anything like yet, but I'll say that I love the experience so far. On the Google infotainment - I personally think it's pretty good, maybe most people with issues in the functionality department are comparing it to other current systems? I came from a 2014 FG MKII Falcon, so any manner of modern infotainment in a car is great to me haha. That said, I've found it to be user-friendly. No real complaints on it, but I suppose not everyone will have the same experience.

Enjoyed the video as usual! Keep up the great work.

With the XC40 electric and C40 electric the batteries are actually serviceable and recyclable. The system is a modular set up so when your battery start to deteriorate after 10 years Volvo can actually detect what cells are dying and pull them out from the car and replace them with new ones (much easier then a full big battery replacement) and then the cell that gets taken out is actually recycled as well, just a fun fact :)

I've been a close follower of your amazing video. Thank you for reviewing the XC40. 22 T5 owner here, your comments are spot on. Unrefined start stop, autonomous emergency braking triggers unnecessarily, and I have to replace my brake pads and rotors when it hits 22, 000kms. I was really surprised. It is cheaper to replace them (OEM parts) in a workshop compared to Volvo dealership.

Our fuel consumption is 10.5km/100km, mostly suburban driving. Not the best imo.

Again, thank you for highlighting the child booster seat does not fit, it will help us to pick the right one in the coming months.

Other than the above, its still a great car to daily. The build is solid and a very quiet cabin.

Keep up the great work.

Quick comment on the EVs. The XC40 Recharge and C40 have liquid cooled batteries unlike older EVs, and as long as the charging limit is set, e.g. to 80%, the battery doesn't really depreciate by time, but by kms driven.

While its too early to say how bad it'll be, but if Teslas depreciation is comparable, one can expect it to depreciate fairly quickly at first ~10% in the first then slowly, a further ~2-5% the next

Hence i wouldn't expect these to have a fraction of their range even at 20 years old. Also, here in Norway (special situation i know), the EV versions seem to keep their value better than the ICs.

Great info, thanks! I bought a new 2024 Volvo XC40, mostly for safety purposes, as my 2003 Honda Civic had finally reached its end. I only drive 3, 000 miles a year, so it's good to know what to expect from the Volvo over the years!

I purchased a new white/ black top..2021 xc40 R. Tint windows... Still beautiful..lots of compliments I have 35k..Still love it!!! No problems so far. No break replacement, yet..but expecting it..It feels sporty, but not too lumpy..Stop/ start can be annoying, vut has turn off feature, however its better than my Mercedes.. Yes, the screen is not the best but i dont dislike it.. its fun to drive, not great for "folks 6'2 rear seating..My 40k service is around the corner.. Dealers pricing $500- $700!! Does Inclues oil service.. Im pleased i got the XC.. not the new ones.. Cross my fingers..I dont see anything else out here i like.

We have one of these in the family and its been fine. Nice, comfortable, not very economic though... Engine pulls well and throttle response is lively, almost feels naturally aspirated!

Thanks for making this video after my IG request a few months ago!
My partner and I tested a few used models since then and found the T5 R-Design the was a much more enjoyable and premium feeling driving experience than the T4 or B4 engines. I'll probably steer clear of this one given the long term cost of ownership and lack of warranty on a used version unfortunately. Which is a shame as I still think they're one of the best looking and most practical SUV's on the road.
Running the numbers, it works out better to buy a brand new Tesla Model Y on a novated lease than a used XC40 and even a used Rav4 or even an used NX hybrid over 5 years. Unpopular decision I know.

Love the channel and the pod, keep up the great work!

Mate in London bought one and had the clutch fail after 18, 000 miles, one month outside the warranty. The dealer had just serviced the vehicle 6 weeks earlier but clearly didn't want to do a warranty job on it.

People used to criticise Volvo for using Ford platforms, but at least my V70 doesnt cost $1800 to replace the brakes! Say what you want about Ford parts, they are at least cheap.

My 2019 XC40 T5 R-design has 120, 000kms on the clock and I have never had a single fault. Powerful when you want it to be but I choose economy 99% of the time and no complaints there. Previously had an X1 M-Sport which I loved but always felt cramped when driving it.

On a sidenote... If your phone gets super warm while charging... its the phones fault. Not the charger. And its super common for wireless charging. And i guess the USB in the front is for USB sticks full of mp3?

It's now confirmed... it's a "maybe not".
