Why is Ekko called “Little Man”? The theme of all the Undercity characters is inferiority. It impacts the philosophy of characters like Silco and Sevika, it impacts the wellbeing (physical and mental) of Viktor and Jinx. For Ekko, it gave him a duty he shouldn’t have had to shoulder, a duty that demands more of him than he has to give. His entire community depends on the leadership of a boy, a scrawny weak teenager who punches like a child and whose technology isn’t quite safe. But that’s all these people have because that’s how poverty works. In times of struggle, you can’t wait for the right person to come around. Ekko was the one who stepped up. “Little Man” reflects that interplay between duty and limitation

"You still punch like a little boy"

I feel bad for ekko being robbed of his childhood, instead of living care-free under the care of benzo; he is forced to take up the mantle of the fireflies and keep his people safe.

I can only dream of a caring piltover where ekko, vi, jinx, claggor, mylo, and all the other children in the undercity living without the threat of hunger or violence in their daily lives.

It's crazy that I never realized how the Little Man grew up to be the Boy Savior.

It's wonderfully ironic in that, as a kid, Ekko looked up to Vi and wanted to emulate her as the pinnacle of toughness and machismo. He was called Little Man as a cute nickname that encapsulated his aspirations but highlighted his current status and how far he has to go.

As a young adult, Ekko is now a man by most standards of traditional masculinity (he's muscular, a leader, a fighter, an inventor, and a provider for his community) and is the "savior" but they choose to highlight his relative youth and robbed childhood by prefixing it with "boy."

I love the detail in Arcane and how there is always something new you can analyse and find.

"[...] how poverty often forces ill-suited people to step up and take responsibility, because if they don't, who will?" I think encapsulates Ekko's greatest strength: his sense of justice and his reaction of responsibility. The contrast of Ekko as a kid, his joy and knack for secrets, running against the man Ekko had to become is fascinating.

This kind of reminded me of something. My dad is from Scotland. Specifically, he came from a poor family in Glasgow. Over their People will often use the friendly phrase "big man" to describe someone regardless of there age and stature. The fastest way to make a boy's eyes glow with excitement and to make him feel validated is to call him "Big man".

Which I thought was an interesting contrast to folks in arcane calling Ekko Little Man. As in post-World War II Glassgow, poverty was also rampant, and crime was widespread. But since there were different cultural factors at play. The term "Big Man" came to be used rather than little man.

One of my favorite details of Ekko is in episode 2, after he lowered the ladder and helped Vi's group escape. Nobody thanked him; nobody said things like "thank god you are here"; nobody was even surprised that he somehow saw it coming and came for the rescue. This little detail shows that what just happened is NOT uncommon in the Undercity or to the group. It's just another day. Ekko has his ways to get information, and he has been the "Boy Savior". What's more, this type of life perfectly aligns with what Silco said to Finn about the Undercity: brothers and sisters back to back against whatever the world threw at us.

My family called my younger brother “little man” and sometimes still to this day (despite him being an adult now) I don’t think we ever used it as a negative term. I've heard others use it when talking too much younger boys as more of an encouragement. As we see him having the potential to be a great man one day. “Little man, ” I think is an encouragement as you stated in the “How Arcana writers men” video its validation, another way to say I love you.

When he was a kid he was nicknamed Little Man cause he was a little boy who wanted to grow up and be a man. And when he's a man he's called the Boy Saviour because despite being a saviour for his people, a part of him probably still wished he could get back his robbed childhood.

I have never heard a person be so real about masculinity

I really like the idea that he kinda represents how the people in the undercity aren't equipped to help themselves so they make do with what they have, because if he's truly a representation of this, that makes him literally the echo of the city's struggles. (I like it when characters have a goof reason for being named the way they are)

I feel like it also emphasizes his intelligence. He wasn't just born the way he is. The dichotomy represents the amount of effort he put in

I suspect that there is also an element of recognition that Ekko will have greater significance in the future. Little man, and the subsequent references to it, tell us that this isn't even Ekko's final form.

Both of his monikers are a combination of a belittling factor (little, boy) and a magnifying factor (man, saviour). If you combine them and mix them up it indicates that the little boy may become the saviour of man. This is especially interesting if you take into consideration the whole idea of toying around with time, which is Ekko's thing. The development from boy to man and from a "little one" to the saviour of his community are deeply rooted in his character.

Ekko is amazing. Even when hurt and being taken care of, his community look to him. Because he isn't their commander or their boss. He is their leader. A true leader.

I'm impressed by how the author/s of arcane has managed to web so many things together and how detailed they are when making the storyline as well as the characters. I also appreciate you sir, how you managed to find many of these things and make it clear for us. I absolutely have no clue about these things when I was watching arcane, I just knew that it was very engaging to watch.

P.S. Sorry if my English is bad.

Ekko became my favorite character so quickly from ep1 and just sky rocketed above everyone else as the show went on
