This is the first scene of Strauss where he’s actually portrayed like the jerk he really was.

Chapter 2 was one of my favorite parts. Most of the gang is alive and home at the end. Horseshoe was the best location for camp. Arthur was healthy. I have a special save for this part

I remember my first playthrough without knowing anything about the story, I legit spent like 20 minutes trying to find a way to not break Micah out of jail

Arthur: ‘Oh, no reason . . . catch you later then!’

I remember during my second playthrough, I put off doing the Downes debt collection for as long as possible. Then suddenly, they lock me into this cutscene, and give a strict way-marker that you have to follow, otherwise you mission fail.
Yeah, I was VERY pissed off. For the remainder of my playthrough, anytime I saw Strauss around camp, I antagonized him purely out of spite.

If you keep doing camp requests and your side table gets full, you can skip reading mary's letter and her voice will still keep playing while strauss keeps on talking to you. Ride your horse quickly before he finishes and you can explore west elizabeth

edit: this doesn't disable the sniper in new austin just the pinkertons on west elizabeth, like how you're with the reverend or on a bounty mission

I always get this cutscene because I don't want Arthur to contract TB for as long as I can.

You get the option to pay $75 for a wagon load of timber to help some random stranger build a house but can't give Strauss a few dollars to pay off Downes' debt. Authur hates collecting those debts anyway so it would even make sense lore wise.

In my second playthrough of the game I antagonized Strauss at every turn. Arthur is completely right about him in the end, and even early in the game Arthur describes how much he hates collecting for him in his journal.

You can get around this cutscene if you do every mission besides Strauss first debt collection mission then you can do every chapter 2 mission without doing the Downes debt collection. The only chapter 2 missions it blocks you from doing is the Valentine shootout mission and the mission where you find the new camp.

I've always thought there should be a secret ending where the whole gang moves to Australia or something if you donate an absurd amount of money to the camp

Wish Arthur would avoid getting dept from Thomas Downes.

If Strauss made Micah do this job, we would have had the good ending. I'm sure a hell he wouldn't last as long as Arthur had lived. He probably would have died the moment he coughs himself to death in San Denis.

I always get this cutscene when trying to progress the story as TB-Free Arthur :((

if you get this and have a lot more to do in chapter 2 and don’t want to be forced into this mission, when the yellow marker pops up on your radar, ride in the opposite direction of downes ranch away from camp. you will fail for leaving the ranch. then retry the checkpoint. you’ll spawn right at downes ranch. now turn around and jump off the cliff with your horse. you can then cancel the mission

I wonder if they'll ever make another game character who's even half as great as Arthur. He's so universally like-able (does anyone actually not like him?), and has so much depth. It's a thing of beauty - massive props to whoever designed him.
