Klopp has advanced his English now that he is that good at sarcasm, reporters of other countries are finding it offensive lmfao

I think he meant the exact opposite. He was making fun of the fact that the tournament would take a month and with quarantining it might even take longer for his 2 best players to be out of the squad. So he said "little" tournament but actually meant "a fucking long one". It was just sarcasm nothing more.

he’s actually correcting the reporter, who disrespectfully forgot everyone besides Europeans will be away. Africa, Asia, and South America have tournaments, yeah the spring will be easy for Liverpool when that’s 2/3s of our team.

If you were a german native speaker you would further more understand why he said " a little Tournament". Its very common to say this phrase in German. There is no Intention in harrassing/insulting anyone. Normaly you say it when you are full of work, so much work that you cant even get ahead of it. And then in that very Moment when you think oke i may be able to controll it, there comes a "little bit more work" around the corner. So its more ironicly informing other people of how much work/stuff you have to handle. Not to insult anybody, but to motivate yourself " hey its just a little bit more. I did all the Rest so i will handle that "little thing" also".

City fan here. So this is what caused all the fuss? Clearly he means there WILL be other international duties effecting his team. I guess it’s winter so bound to see some snowflakes.

clear sarcasm in response to the reporters saying no international breaks till march

It is a german thing. It is normal to call something big, little. For example: oh i really like this small mountain in the himalayas, North of the USA there is a small country called canada or there is an unknown player called messi playing for the little club PSG. It is german irony.

Even as a United fan, it’s quite obvious to me what Klopp meant. He was using this term to highlight the fact that the press are ignoring the AFCON when they point out an international break until March. The opposite of what people assume and it’s so obvious that I can’t believe anyone who watches this could accuse him of it in good faith.

AFCON is the 7th largest football competition on earth. In 2012, it was watched by 6.6 billion people worldwide. Not a very small tournament, and thus I'm getting a little bit of sarcasm there from Klopp directed at the journalist who completely disregards it. South African here

And now we get to see in the comments how many people think they understand English, but fail to understand sarcasm.

Everyone on here with the knee-jerk reaction doesn't understand how sarcasm works. This is the case for a lot of people. There is a level where you pick up on cues like tone of voice, choice of words to convey mocking or irony, etc. I would think that unless you are from or have lived in an English-speaking country, or maybe you just have a lot of exposure to the language in social situations, you would be likely to take what someone says literally without picking up on when is something is meant as a sarcastic comment. But it's also on Klopp! Sarcasm can be a double-edged sword.

He is the only straight speaking nice guy in the sport. To even think Jürgen would want to insult anyone or a continent without reason - is just stupid.

If you give him reason, he will make a sport of it :)

How can no one see the sarcasm? He is clearly taking it more seriously than the reporter, that is his entire point!

You can tell he was being sarcastic because as he said he often hears no international break till March. He was trying to correct the reporter. Klopp loses his big players in Salah and Mane, he knows and he wasn’t disrespecting Africa. See? He even forgot about South America’s tournament but at least he knows about the one in Africa.

It was the opposite - he did talk in english but it was more a german term with an ironic taste!!!

so he would never talk down the african continent

but people love to understand things wrong these days so they can talk bad!!!

A friends asks you: Mate let's go out!
You say: No man, I still have a little bit to do here.

Meaning it's not a little bit but a few things to do. Why can't people just think before attacking someone. 😪

There’s nothing in football that says a country nation cup is a little tournament, can we call the European nations and the European championship a little tournament? No
