Jurgen Klopp was asked to apologise for a comment he made about the African Cup of Nations in which the Liverpool boss referred to the tournament as 'little'.

The comment sparked anger among one reporter in particular who used Wednesday's nights press conference as an opportunity to confront the LFC manager.

The scary thing is that reporter knows exactly what Klopp meant and he sensationalised it because he knew what it would create. Actual Journalism is a dying art replaced by these clowns and copy and paste merchants. Sad really.

Imagine anyone thinking this is even remotely interesting. It was sarcasm and the context makes it so obvious that it's sarcasm. Liverpool lose their best players but there is no international break. His point is literally the opposite of this reporter's BS, his is point is that it is a big tournament but there's no break so it's not fair.

It’s a Pity for this reporter, so “Woke” and ofended, wishing to make this a world news event; even when Klopp explained his usual sarcasm within the context literally disarmed the young fella, mainly by listening to him not otherwise.

I’m a huge Egyptian fan. I completely understand what Klopp meant. Much ado about nothing.

If you couldn’t pickup on the irony and sarcasm and actually saw the full conference rather than clipping just the bit were he said that, then there is no helping you

That reporter's reaction showed every thing wrong with today's world.

He was clearly being sarcastic, no news here

The first interview reporter said there is no longer international tournament until next year. Klopp answer it sarcasmly by calling Afcon is little tournament because the reporter forgot about it. It more like Klopp said to the reporter why you forgot about Afcon? That what he actually mean but that African reporter misunderstood it meaning.

I say it to my girlfriend all the time. "Say hello to my little friend"

She knows I'm being ironic.

He clearly meant it sarcastically. That journalist thought he did something. “Nothing going on until New Year - Ah well there's this little thing called Christmas coming up” That's clearly how he meant it. The journo is in the wrong here.

honestly klopp was ironically saying it was little to imply that it is a big deal for them; he knows he’ll lose 2 of his best players, i took it as a sarcastic compliment of the tournament tbf

EDIT: for everyone coming at me, afcon is literally my favorite competition other than the world cup lmao. this is clear mistranslation, and i see the outrage, but it’s just a complication of the english language he was implying how important the tournament is to their season.

He's downplaying ironically, understating with sarcasm. He means it's actually a big event for him, not at all little.

He was correcting a journo who said are you happy there’s no more international football until March. Klop sarcasticly responded that there was a “little” thing called the Africa cup of nations.
Talk about making something of nothing! Wow

I love Klopp lol, this journo is trying to make one of the nicest guys in the world who's players run into the ground for him into some sort of bad guy. Klopp answered perfectly, I'm glad he got sort of pissed about this

As good as Klopp's English is, nobody should expect him, or any other non-native English speaker to be fluent. Mistakes are easily made, especially when this particular language can have so many words and phrases interpreted differently. I'm an African and I refuse to let that journalist speak on my behalf.

As a City fan I never thought that I would leap to the defence of Klopp - but it is clear that he is being sarcastic in his 'little' tournament comment. FFS, some people need shooting.

Hope the reporter recovers from this harassment, hopefully he doesn't need counselling. Might set up a gofundme so he can get all the help he needs.

I understood the clipped version sky showed here. You can hear it in Klopp's voice and you can see his mannerisms. Knowing Klopp, his team and his general attitude with people in general, you'd know what he meant.

The only ones dumb enough to take offense should learn basic comprehension.

This is a great example of modern day journalism. Sensationalism and trying to "gotcha" someone in an attempt to be the journalist that gets someone cancelled

As an African I understand what he meant when he said "Little Tournament In Africa" some people just need to grow up and stop being over sensitive. Klopp is not the type to insult Africa when his 2 best players are African.
