More common, they'll have 2 blatantly wrong, 1 kinda ok, and 2 answers that seem less offensive but are not things done in real life

If my time in the military doing online training has taught me anything, it's: "too long to be wrong."

Better call the police!
How dare they ask for water! 🤨

my theory is that they have to make it so black and white otherwise these questions would be highly subjective and impossible to answer on a boards exam

I got through a class in college doing nothing but the tests and got an A for the semester because the test questions were like this.

You can also ask the nurse to help the patient rinse their mouth. The nurse will give just enough water to relieve the dry mouth without compromising the anesthesia.

Call the police. They have malicious plans for that water

Oh god, I'm a CNA (basically, equivalent in my country) and I always got offended at these cuz I figured they think we're such morons at my level that they have to try to teach us very basic common sense any chance they get. Like they're whispering "please try not to be the fucking morons that you are" throughout each test.

Would never have thought drs get the same type of questions and it honestly makes me feel better 😂

Meanwhile nursing questions are like "well yes, that's right, but actually no F you."

These questions always sounded like they were pulled out from a quiz found in an early 2000s teen magazine lol

This reminds of that question in the driving test; an old lady is crassing the street at a lighted crossing, the light has gone green but she hasnt finished crossing, what do you do?
A. Honk your horn
B. Run her over
C. Calmly wait

They fr be like "murder the patient's pet Iguana" or "Calmly explain" and there is no in between lmao

A study in my country found out that it is safe to drink (clear liquids of course) until 30 minutes before surgery.

Ugh. Yes. Some of them are just straight up giveaways 😂

I had one for pediatric trach/vent:
The low pressure alarm sounds on pts vent. What is the first step in assessment?
A) Call 911 and wait on emt
B) Shut vent off and call parents or supervisor
C) Troubleshoot vent settings while panicking
D) Check trach for decannulation

😂😅

CNA test was definitely like this glad I had a great teacher who would make us relay our thought process on what answers we chose then correct us when needed

One time years ago I was NPO in the ER and kept asking for water bc I was craaaazy nauseated and all anyone would say is “You can’t have water until the doctor says you can”. Zero explanation and now as a nursing student I finally understand that it’s probably because they weren’t sure if I’d need surgery. Really wish they’d told me that bc at the time it just felt like pointless torture 🙃

Ethics questions on nursing tests and exams are like this too 😂

I go with E
As steveio explained it:
Anything you eat or drink will travel up your stomach and go into your lungs because the anesthesia relaxes your whole body and your reflexes aren’t working while you’re under the anesthesia.
I recently had an appendectomy and while I was waiting for final results/my surgery I was on an iv with saline for hydration and morphine for pain management.

If they are NPO for planned surgery, then you should check the clock. Most patients can and should drink small amounts of water (even coffee and tea and some other clear liquids) up to 2 hours before their appointment. Dehydration before the procedure can be just as dangerous.
