I love how you said that basically, they are all shit, but visual studio is the least shit xD

Chris, I know there are some downsides with edditors like Jupyter Notebook and iPython. Can you please share your opinion ? I am new to programming and have stated with python. Thanks !

I did not hear Spyder mentioned. Where does that 'fit in', or 'not fit in' to you? And if you can elaborate on, at least a little, regarding that. I'm 'new', so please be merciful. Thank you.

I've tried all of these except VS since I develop in Linux. Sublime is awesome, but you have to pay, which I disagree with. I stick with Geany, which is fantastic and very lightweight.

You nail some serious, global points that play hurdle now with the dev community at large. Popularity fades with download numbers because the product may have been the only service available at the time; metrics are still a bit of a nightmare when considering the direction of an environment setup with a far more damaging effect than a platform often deserves.

Excellent discussion topic.

Man, I've tried all of these and I just keep coming back to MacVim and Terminal (with Zsh and Tmux installed), simple, fast, and configurable.

The bestest thing about VS code is it's low memory and processor consumption of about only 20MB in comparision to PyCharm's 500-600MB consumption. And also the cool, dark more soothing theme & quick launch.

5:30 it's clear what you recommend as you repeatedly said the same things. but really why that is, is unclear to me... you don't like the menu navigation?! sooo informative...

I use both Notepad++ and Sublime 3, at the same time which is highly unorthodox I'm sure. . .When I switch to Linux, I'm not sure what I'm going to use. I suppose Sublime 3.

I have used sublime text, vs code atom, Komodo edit and pycharm...I found vs code aesthetically awesome, but pycharm is the best... it's full featured for complete development and it's code intelligence can win over other applications....

Eclipse with PyDev is another solid option. Pros: it has a nice debugger with optional variables pane. It is free. if you are a java developer, you are probably already familiar with the eclipse IDE. Cons: its not a pretty or lighweight as its sublime / atom counter parts. its not very customizable.

Yay ! I have VSC - its great ! its more than an IDE than a text editor - I and learning to programme and I sometime struggle to install the right plugin in for the job. I used to have sublime then moved to Atom and now it VSC ( I somehow prefer saying VCS - it ryhms better)
